I’ve had a lovely week of teaching and planning, spending time with my granddaughter, and meeting up in person with some of my class participants for a catch up and coffee.
I always like to register the moments of joy, particularly at the moment with everything that is going on in the world and that fills our news channels. I want to share just two of them:
Firstly, in my ‘in person’ class on Monday I suddenly felt a warm glow, as I looked around the room and saw everyone moving. Sometimes following instructions, sometimes doing their own thing — I love a bit of ad libbing — but most importantly moving. It reminded me why I got into the fitness business in the first place — I want people to stay active, feel good about themselves, invest in healthy habits, and live the best life they can, and if I can help people do that then that is my
purpose.
Secondly, equally I get a warm glow when I see everyone on my screen in my online classes. I love to see everyone moving, and sometimes I see pets running across the screen, or climbing on top of their buddy, trying to join in … and sometimes I see children joining in. This happened on Saturday, as one of the class participants had her 4yr old niece on a sleepover. The feedback after class was that her niece kept her in check during the class … and when we did ‘the hundred’ arm beating, she
told her Aunty she’s (me) still flapping, so you need to keep flapping … absolutely brilliant!
Registering these moments is so important to our wellbeing because it is easy to feel like we are being bombarded by bad news. Both of these moments, among others, are featured in my gratitude journal this week, so when I switch the news on — which isn’t often because of how it leaves me feeling — my joyous moments bring me the balance, they give me the light.
Recognise those joyous moments, keep them, feel the warm glow and the lightness they bring.
