I was listening to a podcast in the week on one of my walks, and the two women were chatting about being authentic and showing up as their true selves. The podcast was The Mid.Point with Gabby Logan, and she was interviewing Tamzin Outhwaite, the actress.
Tamzin was talking about no longer bowing to the pressure of being a size 8 in order to get a part in a production. She said that if a part required that she would say No because she wouldn’t be able to sustain it, but also that if she said Yes she knew she wasn’t being true to herself or being authentic. She no longer wanted to be wanted based on things that just weren’t her.
Both women chatted about how in the past they had said yes to things or agreed to things, or behaved in a certain way because they thought that was what was expected. The problem with this is the negativity, disappointment, unhappiness that it often led to, and how the experience made them feel. This all fitted nicely with my Newsletter of 10 April talking about fitting in, so I thought the podcast coincided nicely with my drive to be authentic.
I am sure I am not alone in understanding exactly what they were talking about. How often have you agreed to something, said yes to something, or tried to fit in, and then it has left you feeling lost, empty, frustrated, sad, let down?
Staying true to yourself isn’t always easy, it can be scary, it can create a bit of anxiety, specially if you aren’t used to letting yourself show up in certain situations. It's not that we are putting on an act, and it's not all of the time, but there are possibly situations and moments when we either hold back or find ourselves not following our gut feeling because we feel we can’t, shouldn’t, or we might lose out if we don’t.
So I’m here to say, it's time to support yourself, show up as yourself more, be more you. Be your authentic self because that is more than good enough, and that will make you happier when you know you have been true to yourself.
Have a great week folks, keep feeling, moving and looking good.
