Each person deserves a day away in which no problems are confronted, no solutions searched for. Each of us needs to withdraw from the cares which will not withdraw from us
Maya Angelou
Do you book days out for yourself, where you remove yourself from the regular, routine of work and life?
For physical and mental health to prevent feelings of overwhelm, burnout, injury and fatigue, it is vital to book some time for yourself.
In life we all have worries, problems, situations that we have to deal with daily. We can be at the beck and call of family, colleagues, friends, deadlines, dates in the diary and this can become exhausting without us really being conscious of it. We think we can go on and on in fact we can get into the mindset of saying to the universe give me more to deal with … I don’t feel like I have enough on my plate at the moment!
We often don’t realise the impact until we feel ill, feel mentally and physically exhausted, we can become tearful (definitely me) and we can also start to become resentful, frustrated, irritated, and at worst feeling angry that we don’t seem to have any time for ourselves. All of these feelings are telling us that we need a break, we need to stop, we need some time away.
This is when we need a day when we switch off — we switch off from work, we switch off from doing things for other people, we have a day when we don’t have to travel anywhere or be somewhere at a certain time, a day where we don’t have to take action, or make decisions, we need a day where we can stay in our PJs, or dress up if we want to … but make the day just for you.
Is it possible? It is, because we can all make a choice to do it, and we deserve to take this time for ourselves. Book it in your diary, make a date with yourself, make that the day when you switch your phone off, leave your laptop or your computer shut down … and tell people you won’t be available. Everything will still be there the next day, and you will feel empowered, recharged, and ready to deal with whatever the world chooses to throw at you.
DO IT!
