I hope you have had a good week.
I write this on my return from my first Pilates, Mindset and Mindfulness Retreat today (Saturday), so although I feel tired, I am really happy.
Everyone was really open to everything we did, and I am very grateful to all participants. The food was good, the company was great, and I am now looking forward to the next one in September. I'll be giving details of booking in the Newsletter in a week or so.
Beginners Guide To Pilates Workshop
Just one space left for my Beginners Guide to Pilates session on Saturday 13 August — 90 minutes to get reintroduced to the Pilates method, or find out how Pilates will work for you if you haven’t done it before. Here’s the link to book… If you know of any friends or family members who you feel will benefit from trying Pilates, please pass
on. The cost is £18, and the venue is A Space To Meet, in Woodhouse Eaves.
Pilates Classes

Online classes are running as normal — link to the Online Calendar below. But also, see the next paragraph...
Evening Energiser Pilates
Some additional online classes this week with my Evening Energiser Pilates programme — 6.30pm live in both Zoom and the JTP Zone facebook group — 10–15 minutes starting on Monday 1 August through to Friday 5 August, to help you switch off from the day’s events, and relax and unwind for the evening. Free for JTP members — online and face-to-face class participants, but the package can be bought for just £5 for non-members from the JTP Shop… here’s the link.
Here is Part 3 of my set of exercises to help with strengthening the muscles that feed into the knee joint.
I hope you have found this series useful.
As with all Exercises Of The Week, keep away from pain and work appropriately for your body.
One of the issues we covered in my Pilates, Mindset and Mindfulness Retreat at the weekend, was sleep and relaxation. Lots of people struggle with sleep, either getting to sleep or being able to stay asleep.
There are many reasons that can cause a broken night. For example, if you are pre- or post-menopausal, disturbed sleep can be one of the things to contend with, but also we can get into a habit of waking and when we wake, getting back to sleep is a problem.
There are lots of things we can do to help us relax and wind down to try and help achieve improved sleep patterns. In the Retreat, Wendy took us through a relaxation and visualisation meditation at the end of our day and this could definitely help. Also however, here are just 5 things to try:
- Go to bed at the same time every day
- Get up at the same time every day
- Take regular exercise every day
- Keep a comfortable temperature in the bedroom
- Keep the bedroom dark enough to facilitate sleep
And, here are 5 things to avoid:
- Engage in stimulating activity such as computer games, scary tv, heated debates
- Caffeine after mid-day
- Alcohol — we may think it helps and we might nod off, but the sleep will be disturbed, probably to visit the loo
- Eating a heavy meal too close to bedtime
- Don’t clock watch in bed — this will just add to the stress and pressure to get to sleep
These are just a few things that are shown to affect our sleep patterns, I am sure you may have some of your own, but even just changing one thing could make the difference.
Sleep well.
Have a great week, and keep moving...
Jane xx
