If you are a tennis fan I am sure you will be aware of Andy Murray’s amazing play at the Australian Open last week.
Andy came back after hip surgery in 2022 and I think maybe him and tennis fans thought that his best days on the tennis court were over. Maybe they were, after all he had won three Grand Slam singles titles,
two Wimbledon, one in the US Open, and he has reached eleven major finals. From 2008 to 2017 he was ranked no lower than 4th in the world. These wins don’t include the many other singles and masters titles he has won. Let’s also not forget the two Olympic gold medals.
The reason I am focusing on him in this week’s Your Whole Self is the level of determination demonstrated in his playing this week. He just wasn’t prepared to give up, particularly in his 2nd round match which lasted for just over 5 hours. If you didn’t see any of the match, it’s worth checking the highlights out for a particular point where his opponent seemed to be in control and Murray
was just running from side to side on court, just getting the ball back, then with one return the tables turned and Murray won the point. He then went on to win the match, even though he had been two sets down.
It’s a classic example of determination,
not being prepared to give up, not listening to the doubters who may question what you are doing, why you are doing it, and potentially planting seeds of doubt in your own head. Am I capable, am I able, do I have the power to succeed? Belief is key, believing that it is possible, and believing and trusting in yourself that you are doing what is right for you.
It doesn’t have to be a grand slam tennis tournament, we can apply this to absolutely everything in life. If you feel strongly enough, if you want something enough, if you believe in something enough, then you will make it happen. Don’t let your self-belief be broken down by the doubters, find
your inner Andy Murray determination and get going.
Have a great week folks,
Love Jane xx
