Hello , I'm finding it hard to come to terms with the fact that later this week — Friday, actually — we enter December. Wow! Where did January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October and November
go??? The year seems to have just raced by, and we're almost ready for the next one to start. Where exactly does time disappear to? Answers on a philosophical postcard, please... On another tack, Keith and me — after more than three and a half years of avoidance — finally succumbed to Covid this week. We appear to have been quite lucky in that it wasn't too serious an illness for either of us and we are recovering quite well — albeit coughing quite a bit
still and feeling extremely tired. We appreciate that things could have been so much worse, and thank the wonderful scientists/chemists/doctors/nurses and all the NHS support staff who delivered the vaccine so successfully to the nation from the bottom of our hearts. Please Note A plea to all face-to-face class participants to use the Catchups System if you know you will have to miss any of
your regular classes. Even if you do not want a Catchup class yourself to replace the one you'll miss, others will definitely be able to take advantage of your space. Please just head along to the Catchups System online here to register you'll be missing — the password has been sent to you by email when you joined us, but please ask if you've lost or forgotten
it. The Catchups System works well — but it only works for everyone, if everyone uses it. Thank you for participating and helping.
Pilates Classes Week Beginning 27
November Face-to-Face Classes are running fully this week, at all venues, on the correct days and times. Online Classes too are also running as normal. I may have to replace the occasional Live class with a recording if Covid rears its ugly head again and I can’t teach, but otherwise it’s all systems go. And it's Week
3 of Jane's Pilates and Your Whole Self Programme this week. Jane will be delivering a Pilates With a Ball session on Monday at 6.30pm. If you don't have a ball, that's not a problem. As usual, Online Timetables for all face-to-face and online classes are in the links at the bottom of this Newsletter (and at the bottom of the
website).
Finding balance in our daily lives is key, whether you are standing on one leg doing a Pilates move, or tackling life’s challenges. So here’s some help with the physical side of balance … Walking the Tightrope. I teach this in my
online classes to challenge all the muscles that are needed for balance and stability. So engage your core, connect with your inner thighs, activate those gluteals and let's get walking. Posture is also tested with this exercise, lifting the heart and head as you walk that tightrope. Focus on heel to toe, and a helpful hint is to have a slight turn out in your best possible ‘Darcy Bussel’ style to get that balance going. Work
at the appropriate level for your body and keep away from pain. Any questions, send them in.
So let’s get talking about Balance in life. Balance is considered to be the magic ingredient for a healthy, happy life, and as I’ve just mentioned in the Exercise Of The Week, in my world of Pilates balance can be about
single leg exercises, but its also about building stability in mind and body. Why is balance so important? Well, I believe it's the glue that holds everything together. Physically it challenges core strength, improves posture and reduces the risk of unexpected stumbles, but mentally it helps us navigate the ups and downs of life. So how do we find more balance mentally? This is about mindset, and ensuring that as well as daily physical balance
exercises, we are doing things daily to help find more balance in our heads. Here’s some things to introduce daily that will help you to achieve more balance mentally: - Gratitude diary — at the end of every day think of 3 things that you are grateful for today
- Time out — finding at least 5 minutes every day to do the things that bring you joy, lift your spirits
- Do something every day that makes you laugh.
So whether you are on your
mat doing Pilates, or outside for a stroll, embrace all the wobbles that life throws at you, find your centre and let the benefits of balance ripple through your life. Have a great week folks — keep moving, feeling and looking good. With love, Jane xx
