Are you a risk taker? OR are you risk averse?
I don’t think I am a risk taker, and yet I have taken risks over the years in terms of business with classes, with training teachers, and so on. When I opened my Studio back in 2000 that was a huge risk. Would people want to come to the studio? Could I finance it? And the opposite of this — when I
made the decision to close the studio in 2020/21 that was also a risk — giving up what had become a big part of the business, with Group Reformer classes and 1-1 personal training.
So there is a part of my life where I have taken risks, but there is a huge part of my life where I wouldn’t dream of taking a risk, possibly for fear of something not working out.
If I think about my upbringing, my Dad was NOT a risk taker. Throughout his life he always
chose the safe option and I think it was fear that made him so. This definitely influenced me. It’s much more comfortable to choose the safe option. But maybe sometimes it's too comfortable — perhaps sometimes we need to get those butterflies flipping in our stomachs when we choose a different path.
Do you always choose the same food when you go out for a meal?
Open your wardrobe and what is the predominant colour you wear?
When you
go out for a walk do you always follow the same path?
If you are driving to visit a friend, do you always drive the same way?
Do you always stand in the same place in class?
Ok, so these aren’t what you might consider to be risks as such, but if you are looking to get in touch with your Risk Taker inner self, it's a place to start. Choose something different from the menu. Buy a new top in a colour you haven’t considered before.
Discover a new walk. Take a different route on your drive…
You never know, there could be a Risk Taker hidden away, lying dormant in yourself that needs reawakening. Let those butterflies open their wings and start to flutter.
Have a great week folks: keep looking, moving and feeling good.
With love
