We’re busy doing nothing, working the whole day through … trying to find lots of things not to do … we’re busy going nowhere isn’t it just a crime … we’d like to be unhappy, but … we never do have the time …

Lots of songs from musicals have been my inspiration for this week’s Newsletter.
I often sing this one around the house, particularly if I am in procrastination mode .. avoiding those jobs that I don’t really want to do 😉
However, that’s not my reason for quoting it today.
I was watching Springwatch on TV last night, a programme I love, and as the presenters were
chatting, one of them said that what we should all do is get outside with nature and do nothing! They were talking about the healing of being in nature, just being outside and doing nothing, but listening to the sounds around you.
It felt like a bit of a follow on from last week’s Your Whole Self, when I was talking about meditation, and doing ‘nothing’ in nature, just listening, sounded like the perfect form of meditation.
But then something I
was also looking into this week and what I know a lot of the JTP family suffer with, is worrying!
Worrying thoughts start in the head and relate to past experiences, and they can become all consuming, and when this happens we spend a lot of time getting cross with ourselves and almost giving ourselves a good ‘telling off’ for worrying, but doing this doesn’t really help, it certainly doesn’t stop us and can often make it worse.
Recognising that
worrying isn’t ‘danger’ — it's discomfort, it makes us feel uncomfortable, and what is good for discomfort is to do nothing! In other words don’t keep trying to find things to do to combat the worries, but make no effort, allow wherever you are to support you, and go on with your life.
If it was a danger, our instincts would be to fight, run or freeze, but — for discomfort — relax and give it time to pass. Don’t be tricked into thinking that worrying is a danger, because
this makes it worse. Worrying comes from our thoughts, that are based on the past, and aren’t real because nothing has happened yet and may not happen.
SO don’t let the trickery of worry fool you into feeling like you HAVE to do something. Instead, go about your day and let the environment support you.
Have a good week folks — keep looking, moving and feeling good.
With love
Jane xx
