The weather is finally getting more summery, and with that we feel our own temperatures increasing: sweating more with whatever activity we participate in. So my question to you this week is — do you drink enough water?
The advice about keeping our bodies hydrated is that we should be taking on board at least 2 litres of water a day for a woman, and
3 litres for a man. That works out at approximately 9 cups (2 litres) or 13 cups (3 litres) a day.
So why is this important? Well, we need to keep hydrated for hormonal balance. If you are feeling lethargic, maybe a little moody, perhaps your sleep is more disturbed, then being dehydrated will have an impact on all of the things that are controlled by our hormones.
We need to drink more water to flush through our cells, bringing nutrients to our cells,
getting rid of wastes, giving protection to joints and organs.
Water helps to maintain our body temperature, so the hotter it gets, the more we should drink.
Basically water is vital to our health, and plays an important role in many of our body’s functions, and we all think we drink enough, but I feel confident that most will not be drinking as much as they think, or as much as the mind and body needs in order to function properly.
If you
struggle to take on board water, then it needs to become a habit. Always carry water with you, wherever you go, in the car, walking — whatever your activity, have water nearby to sip throughout the day.
To keep a check on how much you are drinking, get a 2 litre bottle and fill it at the start of the day then keep topping up your container from it — this is a great way to measure and keep track.
If you don’t like just water, add some fruit juice to it to
give it some flavour. Other drinks throughout the day are an added bonus, but teas and coffees and fizzy drinks can add to dehydration as they can stimulate the bladder and make you want to pee more! So just go easy on these and don’t rely on them for hydration, mix it up with your water throughout the day, and perhaps replace one of your regular cuppas with a cup of water instead.
Some fruits also contain water and these will add to your overall
intake.
Drink more water !!!
Have a lovely week folks — it is forecast to be hot, so stay safe and keep hydrated!!
With love
