I am hopeful that most of you will be eagerly awaiting my Newsletter each week to land in your inbox, and as it comes out on a Sunday, I hope that most of you will take 5 minutes to have a read — and because I am hopeful of this, I thought I would take this opportunity to write about what Sundays mean to me, and particularly what a Sunday in March means to
me.
For me there’s something about Sundays: they are about rest, recharge and reset and as we step into March, with the days growing longer and the air feeling fresher, Sundays take on a whole new energy.
Gone are the Sundays of wanting to be wrapped in blankets, moving less, craving the warmth and comfort. Now Sundays are about making the most of the lighter days, waking up to daylight and seeing the first signs of Spring peeking through. I can feel
the shift, emotionally and physically.
Chatting in the week with members of the JTP family, we are all feeling the difference of a bright, crisp Sunday morning. More light = more serotonin, and suddenly, the weight of winter starts to lift. There’s a renewed sense of possibility, a gentle nudge forward.
The Physical shift is all about the change in our bodies. Stiffness — and the little niggles that come from lack of movement and holding ourselves against the cold — are
less noticeable as we start to be outside more, and moving more. Our posture changes from hunched over, wrapped up in heavy coats and scarves, to being more upright and more freedom of movement. We start to move with ease, stretch a little further and breathe a little deeper.
However, we don’t have to rush. It’s Sunday after all, and for me, Sundays are the one day I don’t teach a Pilates class, which means stepping away from the usual structure of my week. It’s a day to listen
to what my body needs— and the brighter days draw me to a long walk, a slow stretch, or just moving in a way that feels good without a plan.
So here’s how I embrace a Spring Sunday:
- Rest — a lie in, no alarm, slow down, take longer to sip my morning tea
- Reset — take stock of how I feel, what do I need more (or less) of for this season
- Recharge — movement is gentle for me on Sundays, a walk, a few deep stretches, a Pilates flow to feel
I can move more freely
Spring is the season of renewal, and Sundays are the perfect pause to soak it all in. So today, breathe deeply, move mindfully, and let your body and mind settle into this new season.
I’d love to know how you like to spend your Sundays.
Have a great week folks — keep looking, moving and feeling good.
With love
Jane xx
