I want you to take a moment and ask yourself what helped you feel grounded this week?
Was it some movement, stillness, nature, connection…
Maybe a bit of all of these things.
What does it mean to feel grounded? For me, it generally means a feeling of mental and emotional stability, where I feel
connected to the present moment without pressure from external sources.
In a world that often pulls us in ten directions before we’ve even had our morning cuppa, it’s so easy to lose touch with what helps us feel rooted, safe, and steady. And yet, those little grounding moments — a walk in the fresh air, a quiet cup of tea, a deep breath between tasks — can be the very things that carry us through.
This week, I’ve been inviting all the JTP-ers to be
more mindful, to reflect on feeling and being in the moment. Through Pilates, that gives the body movement, breath and stretch, or having a more conscious walk noticing the ground beneath the feet, or the sky above our head, or just a few minutes sitting quietly with the sun on your face. Sometimes it can be a giggle with a friend, a hug from someone you love, or the rhythm of your breath as you move through the day. It’s these tiny moments of mindful practice that can calm your nervous system,
and reconnect you with the here and now. Whatever it is for you, it’s important to honour it.
Don’t rush past the things that support us in the name of busyness. Name what things help you, notice them, and maybe even make space for more of them.
So why does this matter?
Well, being grounded helps us to respond rather than react. It provides a chance to
pause, to breathe, to move with intention — and that is where the magic really begins.
In Pilates, we talk about connection — to the breath, to the centre, to the moment. That’s why it’s more than just an exercise class. It’s a practice in tuning in, and this can transfer to every day life. Whether you find your grounding in stillness, movement or through connections, or solitude, be curious and notice it — but don’t worry if nothing felt grounding at all: it’s ok, just
start by being aware as this is the first step.
My task for you as we head into another week is to take one moment each day to ask: what do I need right now to feel more grounded? Then, if you can, offer that to yourself, even in the smallest of ways. You all deserve this, and I’m here to support you — using Pilates we can do it together, through breath, movement and a bit of fun along the way.
Have a good week — keep looking, moving, and
feeling good.
With love,
Jane x
