Nurture — Small Acts of Care
In this month where we are honouring Wintering, it asks us to nurture ourselves — to look after our bodies, our minds, and our spirits in small, consistent ways.
Right now, this message feels especially personal for me. Many of you
already know that I’ve had to take a little pause from teaching because of a back injury. I’ll be honest — it’s been challenging to have to stop. My natural instinct is to keep going, to show up, to do. But my body has made it very clear that it needs me to listen, rest, and nurture it back to strength.
This unexpected stillness is teaching me something valuable — that nurturing ourselves isn’t just about bubble baths and cosy socks (though those definitely help!). It’s
also about honouring our limits, giving ourselves permission to stop, and trusting that healing is still a form of progress.
So what does Nurturing look like? Well, it doesn’t need to be dramatic. It could be a nourishing meal, a hot bath, a good book, or an early bedtime. It might be wrapping up warm for a gentle walk, or taking a moment to breathe deeply and simply be.
And even though I can’t be with you in person right now, please keep moving with
me through the Recorded classes and with Jenny and Mary, who are still there to support your body, lift your mood, and remind you that movement is one of the most loving acts of care you can give yourself.
Here are some nurturing acts that can be made into little rituals — of movement, of stillness, of listening — and think of them as lanterns lighting the way through the darker days, reminding us that self-care isn’t selfish, its fuel and a sign of
strength.
As a Reflection Prompt I want you to consider one small, nourishing ritual that you can give yourself, something that will truly care for you.
Have a good week, keep looking, moving and feeling good.
With love and support,
Jane xxx
