Everyday celebrations
As we approach the end of our month of focusing on celebrations, and seeing how — by taking time to do this — we can affect both our mind and body, I want to bring it back to something simple but powerful... the everyday moments that so often slip by
unnoticed.
We usually think of celebrations just being about the big things: birthdays, weddings, new jobs, milestones. But there are many little wins that carry us through each day and keep us going even in the darkest times — if we can tune into them.
Things like:
- taking a quiet moment to enjoy your morning cuppa before the day begins
- noticing the first signs of the changing colours as winter approaches on your walk
- rolling
out your mat and moving your body, even on the days you didn’t really feel like it
- choosing rest when you need it, instead of pushing through.
These are all worth celebrating, because they remind us that life isn’t just about the peaks — it’s about the steady, gentle rhythm of small joys and achievements that add up over time.
The beauty of recognising these everyday celebrations is how they can help shift our mindset. Instead of waiting for
the “big event,” we create gratitude for what’s here, right now. And when you celebrate these daily moments, you begin to notice how much you already have to feel proud of. Saving celebration just for those big moments, is like not wearing the ‘best’ clothes that you have hanging in your wardrobe because you are saving them for a special event.
I was chatting with one of the JTP-ers the other day about our grandmas having a ‘best room’ which never seemed to be used — she
shared how her grandma didn’t just have a best room, but a ‘best sofa’ which was covered in a huge throw so as not to spoil it! But saving for best seemed to miss the point of having a lovely room to sit in, with a lovely comfortable sofa to sit and relax on and enjoy. And I think we can very easily bring this mindset into every day life, saving special things for special occasions, but why not treat every day as special — wear that fancy jumper, wear those new shoes, because I guarantee
something will happen today that deserves to be celebrated.
So here is a reflection prompt for you to focus in on everyday celebrations:
Take a moment at the end of each day this week to ask yourself: What’s one small thing I can celebrate today? Write it down, say it out loud, or simply hold it in your heart. You might be surprised how quickly these little
celebrations add up.
Everyday wins could be:
- I walked to the shops instead of hopping in the car
- I finally finished that book that’s been sitting on my bedside table for weeks
- I picked up the phone and had a proper natter with a friend
- I actually remembered to pause and stretch, instead of ploughing through my to-do list.
Little things, but they all add up — and they’re every bit as worthy of a
celebration.
Why does it matter? Well, when joy and celebration are woven into your routine, wellbeing feels lighter and more natural. You aren’t just ‘doing healthy things’ but you are living them with a smile.
Have a wonderful week everyone — celebrating every day. Keep looking, moving, and feeling good.
With love and support,
