As I mentioned in my introduction to this week’s Newsletter, this month we’re exploring the idea of Wintering — a season of quiet, reflection, and retreat. Just like nature slows down in winter to gather strength for spring, we can also use this time to pause, restore, and prepare for what’s ahead.
Wintering is about more than simply
getting through the darker days. It’s an invitation to honour rest, reflect on where we are, nurture ourselves with small acts of care, and quietly plant the seeds for future growth. Over the next four weeks, I will support you and help you move through this time, gently, thoughtfully and with kindness.
So this week I am starting this journey by Honouring Rest. It feels like the world outside starts to slow down, and it
feels like nature gives us permission to do the same.
I feel like Winter reminds us that it’s okay to step back, breathe, and press pause. We need to stop thinking that rest is a sign of laziness — rest is actually an essential part of the rhythm of life. Even elite athletes programme rest into their training schedule. After all, trees don’t bloom all year round, but that isn’t seen as a failure, it’s as if they know that this is a season of quiet, and this is the
foundation for future growth — we should listen more to those trees.
Rest can look different for everyone. It could be an early night, a gentle walk with no destination, sitting in silence with your morning cuppa, or as I show in this week’s Exercise of the Week, rolling out your mat to stretch and breathe without pushing yourself. These little pauses give your body and mind a chance to rest and reset.
So I
want to ask you these questions: What does rest look like for you right now? And, where could you give yourself permission to pause this week?
I have done this myself over the last week, and I have done some planning for the next few weeks to give me this time.
We don’t need permission to pause. Winter invites us to retreat a little, recharge our batteries, and create space for quiet. Remember honouring rest isn’t laziness — it’s essential. Think of
the trees: rest is the soil in which new growth will one day take root.
Have a fabulous week everyone. Keep looking, moving, and feeling good.
With love and support,
Jane xxx
