Our Week Ahead
Image
Hello ,

Here is the first Newsletter in the brand-new style we are using. We hope you like it.

Main reason for the redesign is the fact that we now have so many classes running for you all, that when they are listed in the old Newsletter it was getting extremely difficult to work out where they are.

So we've put the week's classes in an image of a timetable at the bottom. As we can only have a set size of image in the Newsletter though, all you need do is click the image, and it should open up as a timetable, easy to read, to check and make sure your class is on in the week, and if there have been any changes (venue, time etc). Hopefully, it should make classes a whole lot clearer for everyone to see.

Snow...

Oh my goodness! Thank you to those who made it to class on Friday at Old Woodhouse Community Hall. The accident just outside the Hall certainly caused a little bit of chaos!

And to those of you who came along and was told by a chap that you couldn't get in — I can only apologise.

Due to the diversion I arrived at the Hall slightly later than usual, but I was still there before 9.30am, and I think some of you were told that I wasn't coming, so turned around and went home.

We do have a bad weather policy which is on our website, however, it was a doubly difficult situation because of the accident and road closures as a result of that.

The chap who turned you away, has nothing to do with the Hall except he used to be the premises man. But he isn't the premises man anymore — he just happens to live nearby — so he had no right to turn you away, and I will be complaining about this to the Committee.

As a result, the first class was a very small intimate affair! Anyway, I will be adding some extra classes in and will let all my participants at the Old Woodhouse class have the dates for those in due course.
Exercise Of The Week
Lots of us are affected by the cold weather. We start to lose our posture as our bodies close in. We sit with hunched shoulders, which tightens the chest and lengthens the muscles across the upper back. Our neck starts to feel tight and tense because we carry our head differently looking down to make sure we are moving safely on icy surfaces. Altogether our whole range of movement changes.

So this week's exercise is a lumbar roll. This is a great exercise as it opens up the chest and shortens the muscles in the back as you work to keep the shoulders down. It gets our mid/lower back moving and stretches and lengthens our sides... Then, if we add some leg stretches we eventually reach right down to our toes.

It is an amazing exercise and favoured by lots of health and medical practitioners. Do some daily this week to fight again our bodies tightening up during this cold spell — and remember to work at the appropriate level for your body:

Keith Here...
Not a lot to report here this week, but I just wanted to say that the photo we're using in this week's Newsletter heading is a panoramic shot of Jane's main Studio.

I say main Studio, because we are soon to have new Studio rooms opening. I have been at work over the past few weeks renovating a second Studio room, which will be hopefully in use in a week or so. With that in mind, for Jane's, Josie's and Helen's regular one-to-one clients — I feel I should apologise for the heavy paint smell hanging over the air. It will all be worth it though, and when it's done you'll reap the rewards of my hard work...

Then, once I've finished the second Studio room, I will  start work immediately decorating the third Studio room, for which I apologise in advance for the continuing paint aroma.

As soon as the second Studio room is operational, the main Studio (ie, the one in the photo at the top here) will become a fixed Reformer Studio, where Jane's Reformers will stand out permanently (unlike at the moment — where we have to move them every time there is a Reformer class, and move them back when the class is over).

I should add that — when they are completed — the other two Studio rooms will then be available for one-to-one Pilates as well as for some other rather special purposes we're incorporating into what we can offer from the Centre. It's all very hush, hush and top secret at the moment, but watch this space for more details as this happens...

Oh, and one last thing from me, I welcome feedback on this new style for the Newsletter. If you have any  thoughts either way, please let me know.

Your Whole Self
Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could all feel totally positive all of the time?

Well there are many different methods of creating this positive glow in our lives. Some people meditate, and I certainly have introduced this into my life over the last year, and 10-15 minutes a day can make a huge difference.

But if you are perhaps thinking that you don't have time for this, or that you can't contemplate being still for that amount of time, then perhaps a book of positive aspects would be the answer. Simply buy yourself a lovely notebook, something which feels good in your hands, your favourite colour, or something which attracts you — then write on the first page "My Book of Positive Aspects".

On the next page, write down the name or description of someone or something that you always feel good about, then start to think why this makes you feel good and answer these questions:
  1. what do I like about you/it?
  2. why do I love you/it so much?
  3. what are your/its positive aspects?

Just jot down your thoughts as you answer these questions, just let it flow, don't force anything. You could take some time every day and fill your book, the more positive aspects you look for the more you will find.

By doing this you are focusing on your own positive source of energy and this will just grow and grow — fabulous!

I think that is all for this week folks, so have a great week, stay fit, happy and healthy and keep moving freely!
