| Hello Everyone
Hi
Opportunities will be occurring in November and December to attend some special one off sessions.
|
I will be running a Be Activated Pilates Workshop, where the focus will be on the areas of the body that are directly related to causes of discomfort and pain.
The second session will be a Pilates Masterclass for those who have been doing Pilates for a while and would like to see how the exercises build and progress to create and develop the challenge for the body.
Dates, venues etc are still to be
finalised, and will be available in our Newsletter as soon as they have been organised.
Also for those of you interested in looking at alternative movement therapy, I am hoping that my friend Cheryl Lee will be able to show us some Somatics at a special workshop soon.
Be sure not to miss out on these opportunities, so keep checking the Newsletter each week.
Miss the Newsletter: miss
out!
This week I am looking at working our upper body and shoulders without weight bearing into the wrists. The
Pyramid, or Inverted V Stretch with support from the elbows, is a great way to work our upper back and arms, and takes the strain out of the wrists.
As with all the Exercises Of The Weeks, work at the appropriate level for your body, check your alignment and balance and be mindful of how your body feels when practising the movement.
I have a great friend who is also a Pilates Teacher and who has two Pilates studios in Sheffield, and I try
to see her — Jeni — as often as possible.
Jeni is a wise woman — very caring and inspiring — and last week we were chatting about a programme with Michael Mosley on BBC2 called Countdown to Life. This programme is about our bodies, how we evolve, move, work, function, and how much we take this miracle (our body) for granted and expect it to work for us without
much effort.
Jeni and I believe that if we spent more of our time looking after ourselves, this would have a huge impact on not only our own lives, but those of our family and friends around us. So Jeni has come up with an action plan that I would like to share with you. Next time you are slumping on the sofa, or feeling/saying you are too tired to do anything,
take just two minutes to do something to help your posture, body and mind:
- Do some diaphragmatic/belly breathing to help the body and brain to relax, calm down, recharge and boost energy;
- Check your alignment and posture at standing;
- Practise balancing on one leg;
- Do some pelvic floor exercises;
- Make a list of anything that is new and good in your life;
- Write a note to someone telling them you love them.
You always have two minutes to spare to do one or more of these things. Everyone does. It is about how you choose to use those two minutes :-)
I would like to thank Jeni Ferguson Pilates for sharing this with us.
Not strictly Pilates related — at all — but did you all see the Blood Moon last night? It
was a magnificent sight. Luckily we had a brilliantly clear view from our house and I took this photo of it at around 3am this morning.
A Blood Moon occurs when there is a total lunar eclipse ie, when the earth's shadow falls onto the moon, completely blocking it out. The redness you see is because the sun's rays are scattered around the earth's atmosphere at its
edges, creating a non-black phenomenon.
Last night's Blood Moon was a special one actually, because it coincided with a Super Moon ie, when the moon is as close to the earth as it gets in its elliptical orbit. This has the effect that the moon is larger than at any other time you see it, and brighter too.
The dual phenomenon last occurred in 1982, and will next occur in 2033, so if you didn't stay up and see it you've missed it, and you'll have a wait till the next one...
Have a great week folks, stay fit, happy and healthy and keep moving
freely.
Jane, Keith and the team xxxx

Book Your Catchup Here...
|
If you know you will have to miss a class in your course for any reason, and would like to book a space in another
class instead, all you need to do is follow this link to book your Catchup
In the form you'll find there, simply tell us which exact class you are going to
miss, as well as as many alternatives for Catchups as possible. If you are looking for alternative classes to your own, remember that all our classes are listed on the website, under the Appointments & Classes tab.
Also, we can offer an alternative to matwork Catchups, in that if you have two Catchup classes, you can exchange these for a single Reformer class as your Catchup — if there is space. You need to check
this with us first though.
