The Jane Thomas Pilates Newsletter
Hello ,

All classes are up and running now, which is a fabulous feeling as we start to help more and more people with our unique approach to Pilates. In all of our sessions the priority for us as teachers is you — the people who attend.

This might seem a strange statement, because if you go to exercise classes you would expect that to be the case, however I believe that we care more, and the experience and benefits you get from attending our sessions should not only physical, but also emotional.

There is a social connection within our groups, people come and make long term friendships, and we share laughs as well as movement and physical challenge.

When I listen to our team of instructors and how much they care about you it gives me a surge of joy and appreciation that they are as passionate as I am about what we are doing.

Two comments from our groups this week in particular meant so much to me. The first, at our Mindset Workshop, someone said to me it was so great to come and meet people from other groups and share class experiences. It certainly is!

Then, when sharing some laughs in a session, I was told by one of my lovely people that this was one of the reasons they never wanted to miss a class.

This has confirmed that our enthusiasm and desire to make your class experience the best experience is being achieved. Long may it continue.

Have a great week everyone — remember to look, move and feel good.

Exercise Of The Week
Here are 3 exercises to practise everyday this week — to increase mobility in your spine.

Recruit your core throughout, even though you may feel they aren’t being challenged — they are working, albeit in a subtle way. Be conscious with the movement, and breathe into the rib cage.

As with every exercise work at an appropriate level for your body.
  1. Here is the first exercise
  2. Here is the second exercise
  3. And here is the third.
Feel the difference, move differently, and look more balanced.

Your Whole Self
Do you get enough sleep?

A big question, specially if — like me, as a woman of a certain age — I find my sleep is often broken by getting too hot, too cold, too much on my mind...

And no matter how much I try to convince myself that I can function on very little sleep, I also know that actually my patience, anxiety and craving carbohydrates are all affected when I am not getting enough sleep.

This is just a pattern that I have developed, and actually as humans we love a pattern: we can give meaning to a pattern and this helps us to explain why and what is happening. The hardest thing then is to change the pattern if that pattern isn’t allowing top notch performance. And, as with everything else in life, I find that the best approach is to make small changes.

For example the sleep pattern: there's lots of things to try — go to bed earlier, don’t have any electronic devices in the bedroom, have everything ‘cave like’ (ie, keep it really dark), don’t have caffeine late on in the day, don’t eat your last meal late at night...

The list of things which can affect our sleep pattern is never ending. But to do everything in one go probably feels overwhelming and unachievable. So eliminate the stimulants one at a time. This allows us a greater chance of success in the long-term. Plus it enables us to find out exactly what it is that creates the problem — we may even discover that it may not mean changing everything at all.

I find that this rule can be applied to most parts of our life that we feel we want to improve — one small change can just make all the difference.

I’m off to hang my blackout curtains!!

Book a Catchup

If you know you will have to miss a class in your course for any reason, and would like to book a space in another class instead, just follow the link to book it.

Simply tell us the class you will miss and —most important — please give us as many alternatives as possible. If you only give us one alternative, we cannot guarantee you will get a Catchup.

Please also let us know if you will miss your class but don't want a Catchup — the whole Catchup system relies on knowing when spaces will occur.
