A Break Is A-Coming...

The Jane Thomas Pilates Newsletter
Hello ,

This week we are heading towards the end of the first course of our new year, and it has been short, sharp and to the point  — being only 5 weeks long.

It's amazing how quickly the weeks seem to fly by and it seems unbelievable that we are heading towards the middle of October already.

I feel as if we have accomplished lots in this first course, Jenny and Helen have developed their Biomechanics skills, having screened quite a few bodies over the last few weeks and getting some great results as people begin to improve their movement. Mary is very well established now as a Pilates Instructor running 5 classes a week and developing her passion to help more people by using her skills as a teacher.

Last week another trainee instructor who has been attending my classes has just qualified as a Level 3 Pilates teacher. And I have just this weekend attended a Movement Convention at Loughborough University.

We take our Continuous Professional Development seriously, because quite simply, it helps us to help you more. Our aim and our speciality is to keep you all moving, and through our Biomechanics and Pilates expertise, that is what we intend to do.

Have a good week everyone — remember to look, move and feel great.

Exercise Of The Week
I have been teaching leg circles in my classes. An exercise I love because it works the hips for increased mobility, strengthening all the muscles in the top of the leg, and creates stretch for the hamstrings, inner and outer thigh as the range of movement is increased as the exercise progresses.

I have been focusing on the hips in class because all of our movement forward is driven from the hips. We need to keep our hips healthy so do this exercise this week. I have shown some modifications so choose the appropriate level for your body:

Feel the difference, move differently, and look more balanced.

Love your Body.

Sometimes at the end of my classes I remind everyone during the relaxation time to recognise how well their bodies have performed for them during the class.

I think sometimes we take so much for granted with the way our body operates, compensates, moves, and we should be grateful and appreciate exactly what our bodies can do.

We often feel under pressure to lose weight, look a certain way, but actually we should celebrate the fact that we are all different, and isn’t that great? Congratulate yourself if you have challenged your body in a different way, done an exercise you haven’t been able to do before, kept your body moving in class. Really look at your body in the mirror and instead of picking out the bits you don’t like, focus on the bits you do like.

Someone said to me the other day how great my arms were, and I hadn’t really thought about them, but when I looked at them I realised that they are very toned, and shapely and over and above anything else they are very strong and do a lot for me. So I am going to continue to take good care of my body, feed it with healthy nutritious food, exercise it for health and strength, drink more water to keep it hydrated, rest it when it tells me it needs rest, get to bed earlier so I can let my body sleep and relax, stretch my muscles so I maintain my flexibility and mobility, dress it in clothes that I love to wear, and most importantly keep my body moving so it stays happy and healthy,

The Week's Classes

This week is the last week of Course 1 matwork classes, and next week is our half-term break — for a fortnight. All matwork classes are running as planned this week, all in their correct venues — with the exception that there is no class in Quorn Village Hall on Saturday 15 October, as the Hall is being used for another purpose that day and we couldn't book it.

For those that have booked their place, please remember the MasterClass — Jane Does Joseph — is on Saturday 15 October, in Rosebery Street Medical Centre, at 9.30am. If you have booked, please make sure you do come, as you have taken a space in class and we have had to turn others away.

Finally, there are no classes — matwork or Reformers — week beginning 17 October.

Book a Catchup

If you know you will have to miss a class in your course for any reason, and would like to book a space in another class instead, just follow the link to book it.

Simply tell us the class you will miss and —most important — please give us as many alternatives as possible. If you only give us one alternative, we cannot guarantee you will get a Catchup.

Please also let us know if you will miss your class but don't want a Catchup — the whole Catchup system relies on knowing when spaces will occur.
