Just before Christmas I presented an online course called Be the Best You You can Be, which consisted of 7 days of healthy eating menus and 7 days of exercise routines to help people to prepare their bodies for the Christmas period which can sometimes see us over-indulging.
My goal with this 7 day programme was to help everyone stay active, eat healthily, so that when entertaining on Christmas Day this could be done without feeling guilt about the additional treats that are available.
The menus I provided were easy to follow, and quick to prepare, the exercise routines were short and snappy and easy to fit in. So the goals over 7 days were very achievable and realistic.
When
goals are achievable and realistic we feel encouraged and motivated because we know we are going to succeed.
So now, as a new year begins, we may have ideas about what we want to achieve — such as lose a few pounds of weight, change our lifestyle in some way — but whatever ideas you have about making changes, the best way to succeed is to to set realistic, achievable goals. For example if you want to become more active, but you have a busy schedule with work, you
aren’t going to realistically be able to achieve several hours of exercise every day, so shorter workouts are going to be more achievable.
Look at the type of exercise you love, and write it in your diary so that you can plan your other commitments around it — treat it like you might treat a meeting, one that cannot be missed.
If the workouts are short, and something you love, you will want to do them. When you want to
do them you WILL do them.
So this week Keep Calm and Make Smart Goals, and you will succeed!
