The Jane Thomas Pilates Newsletter
Hello
Firstly, I just want to share and send congratulations to Emma who gave birth to a gorgeous little boy last week, naming him Lewis. I have already seen a photograph of him, he is so cute.

Emma has been coming to our small group reformer classes for over a year now and before that came for Biomechanics coaching. She attended class right up until the week before Lewis was born, and her labour lasted for just one hour and 35 minutes! Baby Lewis was Emma and her husband’s first baby, so it is very exciting.

Emma maintained her health and fitness throughout the pregnancy, and because of this was able to continue with her Reformer classes, this will also mean her recovery will be quicker. Lewis is my 23rd Pilates baby in my 17 years of teaching Pilates, and although I am qualified to teach Pilates during pregnancy, it was only because I knew Emma’s body and how it worked, and because she was fit and healthy, that she was able to continue in a mainstream class. Normally I would recommend a specialist class for anyone who was pregnant because of all the special considerations and contraindications. Our Reformer groups are also small, which meant that those special considerations and alternatives were easy to include.

So we welcome Lewis to the world, and send this fabulous little family our love, congratulations and best wishes … can’t wait to have a cuddle!

Secondly, we have just completed our second contact weekend for our First Class Pilates Coaches, it has been a fantastic weekend, all 8 of them have worked so hard and I have loved spending this time watching them start to develop their coaching skills.

They are all going to be fabulous Pilates Coaches in our growing team, sharing their passion for Pilates and seeing how this amazing exercise programme can evolve and grow. I am really excited to see where their Pilates ‘journey’ will take them.

Finally, we have two new classes starting at St Joseph’s Tearooms in Whitwick from 2nd and 3rd March. So I would like to ask a favour — if you know of anyone who may benefit from doing Pilates with us, or anyone who has been looking to start a Pilates class please pass on our details and ask them to get in touch with Karen at office@janethomaspilates.co.uk to book their free taster class.

I am very excited as Charlie will be taking these classes. His background is Personal Training and his main area of experience is Equine, as he coaches people who ride. The classes at St Joseph's promise to be truly great — the venue is fabulous — very peaceful and relaxing, and very welcoming. Pilates in a venue near you.
Have a fantastic week folks — keep looking, moving and feeling great.

Exercise Of The Week
As there are few classes this week here is a short Pilates routine which can be done daily.

The routine focuses on the adductor muscles (inner thigh muscles) which form part of our core as they feed into the pelvis from our legs, so are part of our deep stabilising muscles.

They can be tight for some of us, but also weak, so it is a great area of the body to work. As with all of our routines and Exercises of the Week work at the appropriate level for your body and keep away from pain. If you have had a hip replacement, work on a smaller range of movement for the side lying leg lifts, and don’t force the movement.

Feel the difference, move differently, and look more balanced.

Your Whole Self
It is St Valentine’s Day this week, so I am going to talk about LOVE.

Usually when we mention Love we are referring to our love for others, or love of things … oh I love that song, or I love that film, or I love eating chocolate!!!

But I want to talk about love for yourself. It is so important in our lives that we find love for ourselves, and sadly we are normally at the bottom of our own lists when dishing love out.

And love doesn’t have to be a huge demonstrative gesture, sometimes the smallest of things have the most meaning. Such as wearing your best clothes! I was having a conversation only last week with two of our clients, and we were talking about not saving our best clothes for special occasions, but actually wearing them!!

If you have a favourite jumper, dress, pair of trousers or shirt hanging in your wardrobe, don’t leave it there waiting for a special occasion, wear it … today!

Something as easy as this is showing yourself some love. Sometimes just taking some time out can be what is required to give yourself some love. So this week, why not make a list of things that you love to do, to wear, to eat, to see, and do one thing every day to show yourself some love. Happy Valentine’s Day!

As this week is the first of essentially a two-week break for many classes, the only classes running are the Wednesday 15 February Absolute Beginners Class in Rosebery Street Medical Centre at 7pm, and the two early morning Reformer classes on Thursday 16 February.

Book a Catchup

If you know you will have to miss a class in your course for any reason, and would like to book a space in another class instead, just follow the link to book it. Our Glamourous Assistant Karen runs the Catchups system, and this link is the quickest, most direct means (it's even faster than emailing her!) of letting Karen know.

Simply tell us the class you will miss and — most important — please give us as many alternatives as possible. If you only give us one alternative, we cannot guarantee you will get a Catchup.

Please also let us know if you will miss your class but don't want a Catchup — the whole Catchup system relies on knowing when spaces will occur.

Finally, please don't just tell your class Pilates Coach you will be missing a class, as your Coach is not aware of Catchups spaces and has no means of registering your space. Karen needs to know, and the link here (it's also at the bottom of our website too) is the best way to let Karen know.
