The Jane Thomas Pilates Newsletter
Hello
My news this week comes from two people in the JTP family. What a diverse range of people we all are, and don't we make an absolutely brilliant team together?
First is from our very own Pilates Coach Debs, who is also a Mindfulness Tutor for Mindfulness UK, and who will be running the course: Integrating Mindfulness and Compassion in Professional Practice, locally (Nottingham) starting from September.

The course is aimed at professionals who are probably already supporting their clients with mindfulness and compassion skills and who want to gain the qualification, as well as others looking to advance their own skills in mindfulness.

If any of our JTP family is interested in this, click on the image link here for further details. You can also reply to this Newsletter and we can put you in touch with Debs direct.

Tui Na & Acupuncture
I recently had the opportunity to try out a massage therapy called Tui Na from another of our JTP family Ellie. Ellie recently took a complete career change to study Chinese therapy techniques and she is now a Tui Na Master Practitioner, and is now training as an acupuncturist.

Tui Na uses a range of techniques to work through skin tissues and muscles to release blockages and achieve Qi (energy balance) within the body. Tui Na can help with aches, joint pain, numbness, muscle tension, emotional disturbances, sleeping disporders, migraines, digestive issues and lots more. I have to say that my own Tui Na session with Ellie made a great difference to the neck and shoulder tension I had been feeling (related no doubt to my close family issues just before xmas), so I can only recommend it.

Ellie practises in Shepshed and Barrow, and you can find out more about Tui Na at her practice website here, or you can reply directly to this Newsletter and we'll put you in touch with her.

Also, in the final part of her acupuncture training Ellie needs a portfolio of case studies, so she has asked me to ask you for volunteers. A limited number of acupuncture placements are free for current JTP family members. Again, reply directly to this Newsletter, and we'll pass your details to Ellie. First-come, first-served.

Have a fantastic week folks — keep looking, moving and feeling great.

Exercise Of The Week
This week's Exercise of the Week is not an original Joseph Pilates exercise, but an adaptation and collaboration of leg work when lying on the back and side work — single knee opening.

This is to challenge your deep core stabilising muscles and I take you through from basic to a more challenging level.

Choose the appropriate level for your body, and work on maintaining pelvic girdle and lower back stability.

Feel the difference, move differently, and look more balanced.

Your Whole Self
I am looking at Courage this week as I find myself either praying for some, feeling grateful for having found some, or appreciating it in other people.

The original meaning of courage was "to speak one's mind by telling all one's heart" but it has changed to being associated with heroics. Now while we certainly need heroes, and heroic acts, I believe that being honest and open about who we are, about what we are feeling and about our experiences is also an act of courage.

Heroics is about putting your life on the line, ordinary courage is about putting our vulnerability on the line. If we pay attention we can see this happening every day, and every time we choose courage, we make everyone around us a little better, and the world a little braver and kinder.

Show your courage, share your courage, admire it in others.

All classes — matwork and Reformer — are running correctly this week.

Book a Catchup

If you know you will have to miss a class in your course for any reason, and would like to book a space in another class instead, just follow the link to book it. Our Glamourous Assistant Karen runs the Catchups system, and this link is the quickest, most direct means (it's even faster than emailing her!) of letting Karen know.

Simply tell us the class you will miss and — most important — please give us as many alternatives as possible. If you only give us one alternative, we cannot guarantee you will get a Catchup.

Please also let us know if you will miss your class but don't want a Catchup — the whole Catchup system relies on knowing when spaces will occur.

Finally, please don't just tell your class Pilates Coach you will be missing a class, as your Coach is not aware of Catchups spaces and has no means of registering your space. Karen needs to know, and the link here (it's also at the bottom of our website too) is the best way to let Karen know.
