The Jane Thomas Pilates Newsletter
Hello
Our news this week is from the feedback I have been receiving from all of you. Some saying that they are now able to get up and down from the floor without relying on their arms as a result of some of the work we are doing in class. Some saying that our classes provide a whole body tonic and are truly mind, body and soul, workouts. Some telling me of some issues that they have discovered about their body as a result of some of the exercises we are doing in class.

I celebrate all feedback, firstly because it is a high priority that we improve body awareness for our family members with our Pilates sessions.

Secondly, it is your feedback which makes us better teachers, because the classes and sessions are for you and your body, so the more we know about you the more we learn how to take care of you. So whatever you are feeling we would love to know.
Have a fantastic week folks — keep looking, moving and feeling great.

Exercise Of The Week
This is a great little side work sequence, and will only take just over 5 minutes to do, so easily fitted into your daily routine.

It is classic foundation work, in preparation for the original Joseph Pilates Lying Side Kick exercise.

The focus of the exercise is on feeling the obliques (our waist line muscles in the side of the body) strengthening. But also getting the outer and inner thigh muscles lengthening and strengthening.

As with all of our exercise programmes work at the appropriate level for your body.

Feel the difference, move differently, and look more balanced.

Your Whole Self
Who inspires you?

I got to start thinking about this over the weekend as we celebrate Mothers Day. My Mum is no longer around but she was inspirational to me, as she lost her sight in her 70s, but continued to live an independent life well into her 80s.

But it is also the 14th anniversary of my Dad passing away, who was definitely an inspiration to me as I was growing up and continues to be as I live my life.

Often we are drawn into thinking of big achievements being a reason for admiring and being inspired, and they certainly do provide that. Only this week the events at Westminster, and the people who rushed to the aid of injured, innocent and the not so innocent people, gave cause for admiration and inspiration. But I often find inspiration comes from what would seem mundane, routine daily events, for example:

  • clients of mine who suffer with ill health but who continue to exercise because they realise the benefits
  • friends of mine who work hard in their chosen careers and still manage to look after their families and juggle every day tasks
  • athletes who love what they do so much that they give up jobs, and all of life's little luxuries in order to train and become the best
  • even some politicians who would sacrifice status and ego in order to stand up for what they believe in — and there are still some left who would do this!
  • my Dad who — at the age of 12 found he was the "man of the house" and even though he passed the 11+ to go to the Grammar School, had to go out to work in order to provide for his Mum and his 3 siblings. He probably never reached his full potential academically — but he lived with happiness, love and integrity.

The common denominator for all of these people is their determination to live their lives with passion, belief and integrity, and every time I come into contact with those clients and friends I feel motivated to continue and do a good job — whether that be as a Mum, as a friend, as a teacher or as a human being. So a big, big thank you to all of you.

Keep on inspiring!

Other than Monday evening Reformer classes, all classes — matwork and Reformer — are running as normal this week.

Book a Catchup

If you know you will have to miss a class in your course for any reason, and would like to book a space in another class instead, just follow the link to book it. Our Glamourous Assistant Karen runs the Catchups system, and this link is the quickest, most direct means (it's even faster than emailing her!) of letting Karen know.

Simply tell us the class you will miss and — most important — please give us as many alternatives as possible. If you only give us one alternative, we cannot guarantee you will get a Catchup.

Please also let us know if you will miss your class but don't want a Catchup — the whole Catchup system relies on knowing when spaces will occur.

Finally, please don't just tell your class Pilates Coach you will be missing a class, as your Coach is not aware of Catchups spaces and has no means of registering your space. Karen needs to know, and the link here (it's also at the bottom of our website too) is the best way to let Karen know.
