The Jane Thomas Pilates Newsletter
Hello
Wow, what a fantastic weekend the JTP family has just had.

The weekend of 8 and 9 April was the Assessment Weekend for my First Class Pilates Coach Training Course. Following theory examinations on Saturday morning, and practical assessments for the rest of the weekend, my team of Pilates Coaches looks set to increase rapidly. All of the team passed my exacting standards of their practical assessments with flying colours, and once everyone's exam results are back from the accrediting body YMCA Awards, the JTP team of Pilates Coaches will be spreading the gospel of JTP far and wide.
Right — Examination Day!

I can say that they are all going to be fabulous Pilates Coaches in our growing team, sharing their passion for Pilates and seeing how this amazing exercise programme can evolve and grow. I am really excited to see where their Pilates ‘journey’ will take them.

And here's all the tutors, assessors, and learners gathered together for a team photo:
Biomechanics Success
I love it when clients come to us for Biomechanics. Almost invariably they do so because gps, consultant and physios are unable to help with aches and pains that simply will not go away. Then, someone mentions about Biomechanics with us, and — often as the last resort — we see them at our Studio for a Biomechanics Screen.

The Biomechanics Screen allows us to see what's happening in people's bodies: what stresses and strains have built up — often over years, often due to workplace environment but sometimes due to hobbies or similar repetitive issues building up in their body. The Biomechanics Screen pinpoints the muscle spasms and strains that are causing pain, diagnoses what's wrong, and allows us to prescribe the releases that clients need to get the body back to a functioning position, and ongoing exercises to maintain that function. This week I have had a particularly nice email from one of our Biomechanics clients who has literally turned his life around following his Biomechanics programme with us. Here's what Shane said:

Hi, I’m Shane and I really wanted to you all to know how thankful and privileged to have Jane as my Biomechanics guru and friend.

My issues all started a couple of years ago when I was working in IT/Business Training. Due to the demands and very, very long hours I started to get a lot of pain in my hands and arms. Over a period of a few months I was at the point where my arms wouldn’t straighten, my neck muscles would spasm and basically I was off work, unable to do anything! For me, this was not good as I have always been one of those weirdos who actually enjoyed working. The pace and solutions from the medical professions were inadequate and provided me with very little relief from the debilitating issues I was encountering. I was in a state, unable to work and soon to be jobless!

This is when Jane came in and turned my life around. Kev from Moose told me to arrange an appointment with Jane to see if she could help. I agreed. I have to say though, I was a little skeptical at what could be achieved, considering the medical profession had achieved pretty much nothing!

So, I attend my first appointment with a few concerns. What was I to expect? Am I wasting my time and money here? What can this woman do that the medical professions haven’t been able to?
I had no idea what was about to happen and how Jane would change my life.

So the appointment involved Jane standing looking at me, getting me to lift here and bend there. She produces a pen and then graffitis my legs. Turns out my left leg was 1.5cm shorter than my other leg. Okay, so what does this have to do with my arms? Only everything!!!!!!!!

Jane created me a personalized plan of releases and exercises to incorporate into my daily life. These would become the instigators of me getting my life back together but it would not be a two minute job. I gave up work when I realized I would never be able to do what I used to. This was a hard decision but I needed to concentrate on my health if I was to ever get my independence and life back on track. The fact I am able to type this article is testament to Jane.
Okay, its still not 100% and it never will be, but because of Jane I am able to function.

So with effect of April 2017, I changed my career, becoming a dog trainer — something I had wanted to do as a child but was persuaded into big business by my parents. If my bodily issues had never started, I would never have had the opportunity or the nerves! I enrolled at the Victoria Stilwell Academy for dog trainers to learn about dogs. Boy did I! It started in September last year and has involved 3 weeks of residential training, numerous online and cyberclass lessons, visiting mentors, dog shelters... 6 months on and I’m now starting my own company. So if I can help you with your pups, please shout but know this — it's down to Jane and her skills that have got me to this point.

So, thank you Jane you really have changed my life. See you soon. Shane

So thank you Shane, for sticking with the Biomechanics programme I gave you, and making that difference to yourself. I can only give you the Biomechanics tools to do the job — it's you who made best use of them!

Have a fantastic week folks — keep looking, moving and feeling great.

Exercise Of The Week

Here is a 12 minute workout to keep you going this week while our regular classes are having a break. It has some of my favourite moves in it.

Please remember to work at the appropriate level for your body and modify where you need. Your core muscles will be challenged with some of the workout … but that is what we want, isn’t it?

Feel the difference, move differently, and look more balanced.

Your Whole Self
The tone of this week’s Newsletter is how people can change their lives by making a choice and making a change.

It is about being brave and honest about how you are feeling and becoming active in your decision making.

The easy option is always to let things continue as they have been, nothing changing, nothing happening to make any situation better. But this weekend I have felt inspired, firstly by the people on our course who made a choice to have a change of direction with their lives, and secondly by Shane’s story. Shane decided that it was within his control to make some positive choices and make a difference to his life, but ultimately for others as he embarks on his career of helping to train people and their dogs.

Over the Easter break it could be your time to look at what is happening in your world. If there is anything in your life that could be improved, or anything that could take you one step closer to living your ideal, dream life, there is always a choice to be made that can help you to make that change.

So if the Pizza Man comes knocking at your door... if you want that Pizza... then all you have to do is make the choice to open the door.

As this week is the first of essentially a two-week break for many classes over Easter, the only classes running are the Monday 10 April evening L2 and L1 Classes in Rosebery Street Medical Centre, and the two ABC evening classes on Thursday 13 April in St Joseph's Tearooms in Whitwick.

Book a Catchup

If you know you will have to miss a class in your course for any reason, and would like to book a space in another class instead, just follow the link to book it. Our Glamourous Assistant Karen runs the Catchups system, and this link is the quickest, most direct means (it's even faster than emailing her!) of letting Karen know.

Simply tell us the class you will miss and — most important — please give us as many alternatives as possible. If you only give us one alternative, we cannot guarantee you will get a Catchup.

Please also let us know if you will miss your class but don't want a Catchup — the whole Catchup system relies on knowing when spaces will occur.

Finally, please don't just tell your class Pilates Coach you will be missing a class, as your Coach is not aware of Catchups spaces and has no means of registering your space. Karen needs to know, and the link here (it's also at the bottom of our website too) is the best way to let Karen know.
