My gift is... Pilates

The Jane Thomas Pilates Newsletter
Hello
I am going to celebrate generosity this week, generosity of spirit, generosity of knowledge, generosity of the heart, generosity to others.

How does this relate to Jane Thomas Pilates, I hear you asking … well, within this industry known as fitness the competition is great, lots of people appear to be offering exactly the same thing, exercise classes, newsletters, health and wellbeing, the list is endless. But in general terms and to the outsider — it can appear to be the same.

However, I believe that although it appears to be the same, it never is, because everyone is different, we are all individuals and therefore what we offer is always going to reflect us and our individual ways. So what has this got to do with generosity, is obviously the next thing you are asking … well, in my life as a working fitness industry bod, I have always encouraged, supported and helped my fellow instructors, teachers and coaches. I have been generous with my experience, my knowledge, my passion, my help.

My goal when I am teaching is to help people move more freely, without pain, and to help people become more aware of their own bodies and how they move, so if someone else is doing that as well, that is helping me achieve my goal. So if I can support and help this happen I see it as being a complete positive.

We are in truth never going to offer exactly the same, because what we offer at JTP is unique to us. Whoever your Pilates Coach is you are receiving the uniqueness of this Coach — the goal may be the same, but the approach and route to achievement will always be unique. But if I can help develop that uniqueness then I will continue to encourage, to support, to share, to be generous, because at the end of the day the more people can be helped to move freely, without pain and improve their body awareness, the happier I will be.

So celebrate this week, share away, share your gift whatever that may be, support and help to your heart’s content, and celebrate your generosity.
Have a fantastic week folks — keep looking, moving and feeling great.

Exercise Of The Week
In the opening week of our return to classes I have been focusing in my class on trying to achieve some release of tension in the thoracic spine and the trunk of the body, so my exercise this week is to focus on breathing as an aid to this.

In the video I show a different breathing technique to that you should use in Pilates exercise (where you will breath into the rib cage). Instead here, you will learn how to breathe into the diaphragm.

We all benefit from improvements in our breathing techniques, we start to take in more oxygen and with this alone we start to feel less tired, so it is worth an investment of a few minutes each day to practise our diaphragmatic breathing.

All classes, matwork and Reformers, are running as standard this week, with no changes at all.

Book a Catchup

If you know you will have to miss a class in your course for any reason, and would like to book a space in another class instead, just follow the link to book it. Our Glamourous Assistant Karen runs the Catchups system, and this link is the quickest, most direct means (it's even faster than emailing her!) of letting Karen know.

Simply tell us the class you will miss and — most important — please give us as many alternatives as possible. If you only give us one alternative, we cannot guarantee you will get a Catchup.

Please also let us know if you will miss your class but don't want a Catchup — the whole Catchup system relies on knowing when spaces will occur.

Finally, please don't just tell your class Pilates Coach you will be missing a class, as your Coach is not aware of Catchups spaces and has no means of registering your space. Karen needs to know, and the link here (it's also at the bottom of our website too) is the best way to let Karen know.
