Last Summer Timetable Week

The Jane Thomas Pilates Newsletter
Hello
My main news is that I start Jury Service from today 4th September, so some of my classes will be covered by the team over the next couple of weeks. I am hoping that I am not needed and will therefore be sent home … but having deferred this once, I am not able to defer it again. Hoping it will all be over by 15th September.

You should all now have received a copy of our new timetable as we start our new year from 11th September. If you have not seen your class timetable email, look in your junk mail folder. It was sent last Monday 28 August, so you may be able to track it down that way if you've not seen it. The new timetable is also available online, so you can view it, print it off, and keep it safe by clicking or tapping here.

There are a few classes that will be starting their courses early — Old Woodhouse on Friday 8th September and Quorn on Saturday 9th September — but the remaining classes this week are finishing off our Summer Timetable. The good news is that we still operate a great Catchup system for our matwork classes, and we have tried to make our system more flexible by extending our course length and introducing the possibility of trade in for reformer sessions.

We have two new classes starting at Gorse Covert Community Centre in Loughborough, and there are free tasters on Wednesday morning at 9.30am and Thursday evening at 6pm and the courses will commence the following week and last for six weeks. These classes are for Absolute Beginners, and if you have people in mind that you feel would benefit from our Pilates please let them know. We guarantee a fantastic introduction to Pilates, the benefits are as follows:
  • Small groups
  • Accompanying 52-page full-colour book with all six weeks of classes detailed, with photographs — written by me
  • Accompanying videos to match each week of the six week course — ideal to practise at home
  • Really great Pilates Coaches.

Once the six week course is completed, the classes will continue and progress appropriately for the people who attend.

Also available are 1-2-1 Pilates sessions at our Pilates in Loughborough Studio. Our new teachers are available for 1-2-1 training, so if you have thought about the possibility of 1-2-1 training, working on a more specific, bespoke programme of exercises the sessions are available and cost anything between £44–£50 per session depending on the chosen package. You can contact us for further details.

Have a fantastic week folks — keep looking, moving and feeling great.

Exercise Of The Week
This week’s Exercise Of The Week is a 9-minute routine of Pilates exercises to mobilise, stretch and relax your body. Focusing on feeling the movement and breathing and all the magical principles of Pilates.

This is not a challenging routine, it is designed to provide a feeling of quality movement, maintaining good technique and time to focus on how your body feels.

As with all our exercises, work at an appropriate level for your body.

Feel the difference, move differently, and look more balanced.

Your Whole Self
This is week 3 and the final week of looking at my Core Values — so this week I am introducing you to my Happiness and what that means to me.

We all want to be and feel happy with our life on a day-to-day basis, but often it can get lost as we behave and do what we think we should be doing, rather than on what truly makes us happy. I consider myself extremely lucky now, as for a lot of years my job, my work made me very unhappy, because I was doing something that I sort of drifted into doing.

It was desk-based, office/administration work, and I did this from the age of 18–33 years old. When I was at school I loved sport and music, so why on earth hadn’t I found a job that incorporated those two things? Well that is a long story, but based on opinions and beliefs of the influencers around me at a young age, instead of doing something I loved and that made me happy, I did something that I thought I should be doing, based on the advice and beliefs of others.

I retrained in my 30s to work in the fitness industry, using music in my fitness classes, and so combining two of my loves …  I was actually being true to myself and what I wanted to do and as a result I now feel incredibly lucky as my work now makes me incredibly happy. I am doing something I love, I get to share it with all of you, I see how my work helps others to live happy and full lives, I feel like I make a difference, and this makes me happy.

The other things in my life that make me happy are probably the same for everyone, for example my family. Spending time with my son George makes me a very happy person. He brings me so much joy as he has developed into such a fantastic young man. He has a brilliant sense of humour and is kind and caring and I feel that I am bursting with happiness when I am with him. Spending time with Keith … when we aren’t working … is also a huge part of me living a happy life, again his humour and his love just wrap me in happiness, and he has made such a difference to my life.

When you see what my Happiness means you can see that my other core values have to be in place, Love and Integrity. So ask yourself if you are living a truly happy life and answer the following questions:
  • What do you love to do?
  • Is this how you spend the majority of your time?
  • Are you true to yourself and how you feel?
  • Is what you are feeling making you happy?
  • Are you doing what you truly want to do or what you feel you are expected to do by others?
  • Can this be changed?
  • What steps do I need to take to make the change?

If you are already living a truly happy life, I congratulate you, and celebrate this with you. Of course we all have days when we get lost in the routine and have to deal with difficulties that crop up in our life — but ultimately it's the bigger picture that we need to invest in so that those difficult days become small blips in our lives rather than making up the whole of our lives. Here’s to Integrity, Love and Happiness …. long may they rule!

This is the last week of our Summer Timetable — and actually, there are three classes from the new term's regular classes too (Friday morning Old Woodhouse Hall, Saturday morning Quorn Village Hall).

Make sure you have booked for a Summer Timetable class if you you are planning to go, and that a class is on.

Book a Catchup

If you know you will have to miss a class in your course for any reason, and would like to book a space in another class instead, just follow the link to book it. Our Glamourous Assistant Karen runs the Catchups system, and this link is the quickest, most direct means (it's even faster than emailing her!) of letting Karen know.

Simply tell us the class you will miss and — most important — please give us as many alternatives as possible. If you only give us one alternative, we cannot guarantee you will get a Catchup.

Please also let us know if you will miss your class but don't want a Catchup — the whole Catchup system relies on knowing when spaces will occur.

Finally, please don't just tell your class Pilates Coach you will be missing a class, as your Coach is not aware of Catchups spaces and has no means of registering your space. Karen needs to know, and the link here (it's also at the bottom of our website too) is the best way to let Karen know.
