The Jane Thomas Pilates Newsletter
Hello
I want to introduce our Workshop Saturdays that we are planning to make available to our JTP family.

Here are some of the things to look forward to over the next term:
  • Mindset and Rapid Transformational Therapy Workshop
  • Pelvic Floor Worksop — a specific exercise programme to work on maintaining a healthy pelvic floor
  • Spine Safe Workshop — this will be an exercise programme aimed specifically at spine/back care and will look at specific conditions such as bulging/herniated discs, sciatica, stenosis, spondylosis
  • Advanced Pilates Matwork Workshop — looking at progressing our Pilates moves to the next level
  • Wellbeing and Healthy Lifestyle Open Day.

It is exciting times for everyone involved in our JTP family, so we hope you will find at least one thing on our list that will give you what you are looking for.

Keep checking in with our weekly newsletter for further details.
Have a fantastic week folks — keep looking, moving and feeling great.

Exercise Of The Week
This week is the final week looking at hip and knee specific exercises.

The CanCan — which is the name I am giving to this week's Exercise Of The Week — is aimed at anyone who is 3-6 months post-operation, if you have had knee or hip replacement or any kind of knee or hip surgery.

However, if you are currently experiencing hip and knee pain due to a condition such as bursitis or arthritis you can still practise this exercise but check the angle of the knee and the hip when setting up, plus the range of movement needs to be pain-free, so make it smaller if appropriate.

You will need a soft ball or a folded pillow to place between the knees, plus you may need some back support to prevent any strain in the neck.

There are lots more hip and knee specific exercises — over the last few weeks I have just provided you with a little taste of what can be done to support any of you with these issues.

Feel the difference, move differently, and look more balanced.

Your Whole Self
I have felt very tired over the last week, and have struggled to get my energy levels up.

I'm not sure whether I have been affected by the change in the weather which is what I talked about last week, or whether I just haven’t allowed my body enough rest time.

My holiday seems a long time ago so I am looking forward to taking a few days off over the half-term break, and although we won’t be able to go away we will have a bit of time to relax and do other things without feeling guilty that we should be working.

Anyone who works for themselves will appreciate how easy it is to feel like you are working all the time. Sometimes I will get home in the evening, get something to eat and then start work again, and it is very easy for the time to drift away and before you know it, it's time to go to bed, and in that time you haven’t really chatted about anything other than work and the business.

So I am definitely going to plan some time out when we have our break, and do some of the things we love, like go to the theatre, cinema, Or just put my feet up and read a book. We will take a 5 minute holiday — no travelling, no strange bed to sleep in, eat when we please, do what we please, just for a few days.

Sometimes when we find ourselves feeling tired, and altogether lack-lustre, we just need to know we have a light at the end of the tunnel to focus on. Just focusing on this light can help to lift our mood and our energy levels, so this week is my last little stretch of tunnel … I can see it's getting brighter already!

Book a Catchup

If you know you will have to miss a class in your course for any reason, and would like to book a space in another class instead, just follow the link to book it. Our Glamourous Assistant Karen runs the Catchups system, and this link is the quickest, most direct means (it's even faster than emailing her!) of letting Karen know.

Simply tell us the class you will miss and — most important — please give us as many alternatives as possible. If you only give us one alternative, we cannot guarantee you will get a Catchup.

Please also let us know if you will miss your class but don't want a Catchup — the whole Catchup system relies on knowing when spaces will occur.

Finally, please don't just tell your class Pilates Coach you will be missing a class, as your Coach is not aware of Catchups spaces and has no means of registering your space. Karen needs to know, and the link here (it's also at the bottom of our website too) is the best way to let Karen know.
