The Jane Thomas Pilates Newsletter
Hello
I’ve been away for the weekend on a Movement Convention, all so that we can continue to keep up-to-date and fresh with the latest research and philosophy about keeping our bodies moving. And you know what that means — quite simply, we can continue to deliver more to our JTP family. I have attended some very inspirational workshops and lectures this weekend and I am feeling very excited about bringing this into our classes.

The most exciting part of the weekend for me was getting to work with Alan Herdman, who Michael King studied with and that is where I started my Pilates journey nearly 20 years ago. I haven’t attended anything with Alan for approximately 18 years, so it was absolutely fantastic for me to get back into his zone. It totally reminded me about why I fell in love with Pilates in the first place, so I hope to bring a little bit of Alan into my classes this week.
Have a fantastic week folks — keep looking, moving and feeling great.

Exercise Of The Week
This week’s Exercise Of The Week is not actually a true Pilates exercise, but the principles of this exercise we use a lot within the Pilates method of movement.

It encourages an opening of the chest, so it's working on posture in the front of the body, plus by opening the chest it assists with improving our breathing. Then for the posterior of the body, it is bringing our shoulder blades back and down, which again is great for posture. Finally, it lengthens the vertebrae in the cervical spine, so we develop that lovely swan neck.

I just ask that you work appropriately for your body, keep away from pain, and focus on the quality of your movement, not the quantity.

Feel the difference, move differently, and look more balanced.

Your Whole Self
I attended one of our own classes last week as a participant, and I just loved it. It was fabulous for me just to take part and be told what to do for a change.

Plus I got to experience one of our team’s coaching, which was fantastic. Something also happened at the class which really made the evening for me — one of my fellow participants came up to me at the end of the session to say how wonderful she thought the JTP team is. She hadn’t met me before, but it was lovely to meet her, and I really appreciated the fact that she had taken time to come and talk to me to tell me how well every one in the team takes care of her. She came to us originally because she had a back problem and had tried Pilates elsewhere, but she felt what we provide is the right match for her.

Then over the weekend another participant from a different class emailed us to say that she had now been taught by several different Coaches in the JTP team and even though we are all different, we all showed such a fantastic level of care and teaching.

So I wanted to use this section just to do a bit of cheer-leading for the team of Coaches we have, and to share some of the comments I have received. We all need cheer-leaders, so this week I am going to be our team's cheer-leader, and say a huge

THANK YOU

to every one of them for their professionalism and just being so blooming wonderful.

All classes — matwork and Reformer — running as planned... Except that the Saturday 9.30am matwork class (usually in Quorn Village Hall) is in Rosebery Street Medical Centre, Loughborough on Saturday 25 November as we can't have Quorn Village Hall that day.

Book a Catchup

If you know you will have to miss a class in your course for any reason, and would like to book a space in another class instead, just follow the link to book it. Our Glamourous Assistant Karen runs the Catchups system, and this link is the quickest, most direct means (it's even faster than emailing her!) of letting Karen know.

Simply tell us the class you will miss and — most important — please give us as many alternatives as possible. If you only give us one alternative, we cannot guarantee you will get a Catchup.

Please also let us know if you will miss your class but don't want a Catchup — the whole Catchup system relies on knowing when spaces will occur.

Finally, please don't just tell your class Pilates Coach you will be missing a class, as your Coach is not aware of Catchups spaces and has no means of registering your space. Karen needs to know, and the link here (it's also at the bottom of our website too) is the best way to let Karen know.
