The Jane Thomas Pilates Newsletter
Hello
Firstly, congratulations to Helen and James, on the birth of Freya Rose. Helen has done Pilates with us all the way through her pregnancy, and we would like to wish them well as they start their venture with a new baby.

As illness and viruses are flying around try to stay fit and well during these first few months of the year folks, I have been caught by a cough/cold virus, but hoping that I am waving it goodbye as I write this week’s Newsletter. Stay well!

Lots of new classes starting this week: we have new matwork classes at St Gregory’s Social Centre in Sileby; and at Gorse Covert Community Centre in Loughborough. We also have new Reformer classes at our studio in Loughborough on Thursday evenings (6pm and 7pm), and Wednesday mornings (8am and 9am). The new Reformer classes are specifically aimed at beginners to the Reformer — so if you have done Pilates before and you are looking at adding a new challenge to your Pilates practice why not book in for this brilliant new experience. Here is what working on the Reformer has done for one of our clients:

I feel stronger and have more flexibility than ever before. It works my whole body, and because of the feedback I get from the Reformer my workouts are more balanced, and my alignment and posture are improving all the time. It is a different challenge to matwork, but working on the Reformer has made my matwork more effective too. I am getting so much more from my Pilates now, I absolutely have become addicted. (Sue)
If you don't know what a Pilates Reformer is, here's a short video to show you the Pilates Reformer, and how it's used to enhance your Pilates experience.

Please contact us if you want more details about any of our classes, and — if I can ask a huge favour — if you think there are friends and family who may benefit from our Pilates matwork and Reformer classes, or one-to-one sessions wirth us at our Studio, please just share this Newsletter with them…. Many thanks.
Have a fantastic week folks — keep looking, moving and feeling great.

Exercise Of The Week
Building on from last week’s Exercise Of The Week, I am still looking at weight-bearing to strengthen the bones in the upper body, so here is a Pilates Side Lift to work on.

I show different positions, remember that working from the elbow and forearm will put more pressure into the shoulder, working from the hand is easier on the shoulder, and bone strengthening for the wrists.

All of this plus all the benefits of working into the obliques (your waist line), all part of the powerhouse sitting at the centre of the body.

Work at the appropriate level for your body, and keep away from pain — 1 or 2 repetitions at the appropriate level is better than none.

Feel the difference, move differently, and look more balanced.

Your Whole Self
Continuing to share your inspirational stories, this week I want to share Jacquie’s.

Without giving too much away Jacquie came to us in a lot of pain, and she had been in this state for a very long time.

This had made Jacquie fearful of moving her body… and yet she had a life she wanted to live, lots of fantastic, wonderful events coming up that she wanted to fully participate in.

So this tells you what she has done in order to make changes and give herself choices. Read Jacquie’s story here…

If you would like to share your story with us, please reply to this Newsletter to let us know.
The Week's Classes
Click the Calendar to View Larger
All classes — matwork and Reformer — are running as planned, all in their correct venues, at the correct days and times.

You'll notice a few changes in the format of our weekly Calendar above... With more and more classes on the Calendar, it's getting a little difficult to see when so many are on at the same time, so the font size has been reduced to help. Matwork classes now have a colour key for the usual class Coaches. Also, Reformer classes now show who the usual class Coach is.

Mary's new Thursday evening Reformer classes are now fully up-and-running as of Thursday 18 January, but there are still some spaces in Cara's Wednesday Reformer classes at 8am and 9am. Please reply to the Newsletter if you think Reformers could be for you and we'll send more information about them.

Book a Catchup

If you know you will have to miss a class in your course for any reason, and would like to book a space in another class instead, just follow the link to book it. Our Glamourous Assistant Karen runs the Catchups system, and this link is the quickest, most direct means (it's even faster than emailing her!) of letting Karen know.

Simply tell us the class you will miss and — most important — please give us as many alternatives as possible. If you only give us one alternative, we cannot guarantee you will get a Catchup.

Please also let us know if you will miss your class but don't want a Catchup — the whole Catchup system relies on knowing when spaces will occur.

Finally, please don't just tell your class Pilates Coach you will be missing a class, as your Coach is not aware of Catchups spaces and has no means of registering your space. Karen needs to know, and the link here (it's also at the bottom of our website too) is the best way to let Karen know.
