A very different Newsletter this week… thankfully.
Firstly, just to repeat again my appreciation and thanks for the overwhelming number of you who took the time to send me your love and best wishes. It certainly helped me with my recovery and I am very grateful to be feeling much better.
I am going to be taking some personal time during October, for some self-care, and to take an opportunity to
step away from work for four weeks. I am very lucky to be working with a brilliant team of teachers and between them they will be covering my group matwork classes and my group Reformer sessions. Your timetable won’t be affected at all, and everything will carry on as usual. If you work with me at the Studio on a one-to-one basis I will be arranging your sessions individually with each of you. As we have to take a three-week half-term break to cover the variety of school half-term arrangements
during October anyway, it really only amounts to two weeks worth of classes.
In other news, we have had some wonderful response to our two occasional Absolute Beginners Courses, specifically about how our accompanying training manual and weekly class videos help to support the learning and the foundation of all Pilates practice. I am really proud of this programme as the structure of it and the progressive way we teach it really does prepare people to then move
into our more established and regular groups.
Remember if Pilates crops up in conversation, please spread the word about our Absolute Beginners Courses — they really do form the best way to give confidence to people who have never done Pilates before.
And finally, remember if you are telling us that you will miss a class — please, please, please use the Catchup link below to let us know. If you just email the Office, emails can be
unanswered for 24 hours or so and you will also reach the wrong person, so your news won't reach Karen (who runs the whole Catchups and absences system for us) or indeed your class Coach in time. The Catchups link is simple to use — the link is at the bottom of an email from us, the bottom of the Newsletter each week, and always at the bottom of the website, and you can book a Catchup at the same time.
I hope this week brings you joy and hope, keep your body moving and keep focusing on the good ... one step at a time.

Last week we gave two videos to help our bodies improve mobility in the lower back (lumbar spine) — showing the Pelvic Tilt. This week the exercise takes the Pelvic Tilt to the next level — the Shoulder Bridge.
The Shoulder Bridge
helps to increase mobility in the spine, but also by adding and layering other movements into it we can create stability challenges and stretching.
I demonstrate several options in the video so please choose the appropriate level for your body and keep away from pain. Practised every day the Shoulder Bridge is one of those Pilates exercises that will improve your mobility, strength and balance.
Feel the
difference, move differently, and look more balanced.

Working for yourself definitely has its bonuses, however it can also become all-encompassing, all-consuming, specially when your business is your only income. The pressure to continue to work, to continue to plan and prepare and when
in a service industry — which is what the fitness industry is classed as — continue to focus on the people who buy those services from you, is immense.
It can feel like a huge responsibility.
Sometimes, in the middle of all of the pressure of this, it is easy to lose sight of other areas of life, such as the health of family, or what has been happening in friends' lives. I feel like this is what I have been doing, always being busy, never
switching off, always having something else to do, and because of this I have missed what has been happening to those close to me.
I am hoping that taking October away from teaching will give me time to re-assess, and regain some balance between work and life.
It is so easy to sink ourselves into work and being busy, and then lose sight of everything around us and what is important to us. We all need to take a break, take time out from the
routine, the day to day running of our lives.
Let's open our eyes, open our hearts and souls and take note of what is really important to us.

All classes, matwork and Reformer — except Friday 28 September classes at Old Woodhouse Hall — are running as planned, in their correct venues, at the correct days and times.
It's the Macmillan Nurse
Coffee Morning in Old Woodhouse Hall on Friday, so we can't have the Hall. There will be replacement classes for these on Friday 2 November.
Book a Catchup/Missing Class
If you know you will have to miss a class in your course for any reason, want to let us know or would like to book a space in another class instead, just
follow the link to register it. Our Glamourous Assistant Karen runs the Catchups system, and this link is the quickest, most direct means (it's even faster than emailing her!) of letting Karen and your class Coach know.
Simply tell us the class you will miss and — most important if you want to book a Catchup — please give us as many alternatives as possible. If you only give us one alternative, we cannot
guarantee you will get a Catchup.
Please let us know if you will miss your class but don't want a Catchup — the whole Catchups system relies on knowing when spaces will occur.
Finally, please don't just tell your class class Coach you will be missing a class, as your Coach is not aware of Catchups spaces and has no means of registering your space. Karen needs to know, and the link here (it's also at the bottom of our website too) is the best and fastest way to let Karen know.
