This week we are looking at an all-4's stability challenge which is a great exercise to start to build strength in the deep stabilising muscles that support the back. The movement of the legs will also strengthen the posterior muscles, your gluteals, the muscles in the thighs, and the muscles that surround the spine.
In the video I show a gradual progression with the movement so ensure that you work appropriately for your body. If you practise every day this will start to also build strength in the wrists with the weight bearing — but keep away from pain and lower down to support from the forearms and elbows if necessary.
Feel the difference, move differently, and look more balanced.

This weeks Your Whole Self has been written by Jenny and talks about the community care that comes from our group Pilates classes:
National Workout Buddy Day was on March 1st. When I first read this in an exercise periodical I chuckled to myself, thinking that only in America would such a goofy holiday be celebrated.
But it stayed with me and got me thinking. When I was younger I attended the same classes every week, we all got to know each other, we all knew where the other participants had their ‘spots’ within the room and we often enjoyed a cuppa together afterwards. It was those ‘friends from class’ that persuaded me to teach the class when the teacher failed to turn up one evening... and so my journey began 😀
Some of us may walk regularly with a friend or spouse, attend a Pilates class with a friend, or have made friends with another participant that has blossomed into a true and lasting friendship.
As a Coach I see friendships and a shared energy in each class I teach. If a client has missed a few classes, we are all concerned, and I have seen kindness and friendship extended towards those in class that may have experienced surgery, been ill, or had a bereavement.
Exercising with a friend — and that includes something as simple as a brisk dog walk together — has proven to improve and maintain a sense of wellbeing. Making an appointment with a friend to meet up often ensures that you do participate in your chosen activity and stay on track. Exercising with others has proven to improve memory, productivity and focus at work. It’s definitely a winning combination.
In a group exercise scenario the benefits are even greater. A recent study suggests that group exercise lowers stress by 26% and improves quality of life. This is further enhanced when the group shares a specific goal (such as Pilates) and in smaller groups (as with Jane Thomas Pilates).
So enjoy your classes, enjoy the company and energy of your fellow participants, and enjoy all the wonderful benefits that exercise can bring.

Book a Catchup/Missing Class
If you know you will have to miss a class in your course for any reason, want to let us know or would like to book a
space in another class instead, just follow the link to register it. Our Glamourous Assistant Karen runs the Catchups system, and this link is the quickest, most direct means (it's even faster than emailing her!) of letting Karen and your class Coach know.
Simply tell us the class you will miss and — most important if you want to book a Catchup — please give us as many alternatives as possible. If you only
give us one alternative, we cannot guarantee you will get a Catchup.
Please let us know if you will miss your class but don't want a Catchup — the whole Catchups system relies on knowing when spaces will occur.
Finally, please don't just tell your class class Coach you will be missing a class, as your Coach is not aware of Catchups spaces and has no means of
registering your space. Karen needs to know, and the link here (it's also at the bottom of our website too) is the best and fastest way to let Karen know.
