Welcome back to class folks, and I am happy to say that we return to our normal timetable this week, all classes running except for the Thursday evening sessions at Rempstone Village Hall (which will be rearranged due to the venue being used as a Polling station for local voting).
As we head into May it feels like the year is rushing by and we will be heading into the summer before we know it.
This term the team will be bringing their own focus into their classes, I am going to be looking at bone health and strength, and will be using the bands and the balls.
We're Absolute Beginners
There is a new Absolute Beginners Course starting this week, on Wednesday at 5pm at our Rosebery Street venue in Loughborough — if you know of anyone who is wanting or thinking of starting Pilates please let them know and ask them to contact us for further details. Our Absolute Beginners Courses really are the best way to get into matwork Pilates, as they teach you the basics of Pilates in a small class, where everyone in the class is at the exact same beginners level. You also get a
52-page full-colour booklet of each week's class exercises, along with a weekly email link to a video of the class exercises, to practise at home.
Listen To Me!
Over the Easter break I have been playing with Podcasts, and if you fancy a listen you can catch up with it on iTunes here, as well as Spotify, Anchor.FM, and others — just search for Jane Thomas Pilates. This week I am talking to Keith and finding out when he started Pilates and what he enjoys about it and what advice he would give anyone who is thinking about starting a class. My intention with this podcast is to speak to people who attend Pilates
classes or who teach Pilates because I am really interested to know why people are drawn to it and what benefits they have found Pilates has brought into their lives.
Have a great week folks, getting back into class, and keep moving, looking and feeling good.
Jane, Keith and the team xx

Again this week I am looking at some side lying leg work, this time using a soft ball.
This exercise is aimed at working the rotator muscles around the pelvis, plus challenge the lateral muscles of the trunk of the body for stability. I show a modification — so choose the appropriate level for your body.
Feel the difference, move differently, and look more balanced.

Did you know that one in four adults will experience a mental health problem in any one year. If we look at this in terms of our Pilates classes either group sessions or individual sessions, in a class of 12 people that is potentially 3 people per class — I teach 11 classes a week, so
potentially I will see approximately 30 people every week who may be struggling with mental health issues.
I believe that these figures shouldn’t be ignored by us but in fact look at this as an opportunity to make a positive impact on those lives.
We all have occasional down days but sometimes those days can turn into longer-term mental health conditions. As a Pilates Coach I have the skills to recognise this in myself and in my class participants and I try to work towards alleviating the effects and factors that can lead to long term illness.
I also believe that we can all play a role in this — particularly in the sense of community that I try to promote in every class. For example I try to make my classes into a friendly, welcoming environment, where people aren’t going to feel judged, but instead feel safe and feel they have a space to escape. Having fun and creating a feeling of community within the classes is the perfect place for people to feel able to share their problems and their feelings. I try to follow a mindful
approach to teaching and delivering in class. Always thinking about how I would feel if I were stressed, anxious, worried or lacking in confidence.
However one of the most important things is that It isn’t about being perfect, which can actually lead to feelings of inadequacy and failure in others if this is what we try to portray all the time. So I try to be honest and open. I like to share my imperfections and troubles and any barriers that I may have in my life. I try to show a realistic image that what you see is what you get, and that actually I am just like everyone else. I have bad hair days, I eat too much rubbish sometimes,
sometimes I like to be lazy and just sit and watch a film or a box set, there are exercises that I’m not very good at, sometimes I say the wrong thing, sometimes I overthink and get over-sensitive … but this is me.
Be part of this community where we care, we support, we share.

All classes — matwork and Reformer — are running as planned, all in their correct venues, at the correct days and times — except for the Thursday 2 May Rempstone Village Hall evening classes, as the Hall is being used as a Polling Station. These two class will be re-arranged.
Book a Catchup/Missing Class
If you know you will have to miss a class in your course for any reason, want to let us know or would like to book a space in another class instead, just follow the link to register it. Our Glamourous Assistant Karen runs the Catchups system, and this link is the quickest, most direct means (it's even faster than emailing her!) of letting Karen and your class Coach know.
Simply tell us the class you will miss and — most important if you want to book a Catchup — please give us as many alternatives as possible. If you only give us one alternative, we cannot guarantee you will get a Catchup.
Please let us know if you will miss your class but don't want a Catchup — the whole Catchups system relies on knowing when spaces will occur.
Finally, please don't just tell your class class Coach you will be missing a class, as your Coach is not aware of Catchups spaces and has no means of registering your space. Karen needs to know, and the link here (it's also at the bottom of our website too) is the best and fastest way to let Karen know.
