This week I want to talk about Reset.
Occasionally when I am working on my laptop, things aren’t working as they should, the internet is slow, or I have trouble loading some files, or basically something isn’t happening, so I have to reset my laptop … I switch it off and switch it on again.
We could apply the same rules to ourselves, our body and our mind.
For example, a classic situation is returning home from work after a long, busy, stressful day, before you step through the door: pause, take a check on how you are thinking, feeling, and breathe.
In other words have a reset of yourself and remember who you are going in to see and how much they mean to you.
Sometimes I do this before I am heading into teach, particularly if I have had things to deal with before seeing my groups. I have a little reset of what is in my mind, how this might be affecting my feelings and my beliefs, and I need to do this so that I can get my thoughts into the right place to go and teach my Pilates session.
It's just an opportunity to recognise that we need to learn to stop, reset and regenerate our energies.
So every time you come to a door, before you open it up: take a pause, breathe and know what you want to do once you have stepped through it.
Also, take a read of the book Do Pause: You Are Not A To Do List by Robert Poynton, which is where my idea of resetting comes from.
