This week's Newsletter is all about our new timetable of classes starting in September, PLUS some great plans for what is coming soon... so...
First, I would like to draw your attention to the fact that — at the bottom of every email from us, at the bottom of every Newsletter, and at the bottom of the website — there are links to the Matwork Timetable 2019-20, and the Reformer Timetable 2019-20. You can print these off or just link to them when you need.
Second, the evening classes that had to be cancelled in Hathern Community School on Friday 9 August (when we were inadvertently locked out of the venue) have been rescheduled for Friday 30 August. If it's your regular class but you are not able to attend on 30 August, Karen will carry these over into the new term's classes for a Catchup (due to the special circumstances). No other Catchups can be carried over after the end of August.
New Classes/Workshops
Back Care Workshop
We still have a couple of spaces in the Friday 8.30am Back Care Workshop planned to start on Friday 6 September. Please just reply to this Newsletter — including your mobile number — for further details. A Back Care Workshop is a simply tremendous way to get incredible access to the Workshop Coach, Gem — who is the Performance Sport Soft Tissue Therapist at Loughborough University. Workshops are for only 5 people, so the help and advice you'll get for your back will be
unsurpassed. If you have been advised to do Pilates because you suffer with non-specific back problems, then this Workshop is definitely for you and will be a great introduction to the Pilates exercises that can really help your back, as well as new trigger point-related extras that can help your back going forward. If you already do Pilates but also feel the need for extra support with your back, then again, the Workshop will be a great addition to your existing exercise.
New Beginners Matwork Class
We are planning a new Beginners Class starting on Thursday 6pm in Rosebery Street Medical Centre, Loughborough on 5 September. If you're new to Pilates, or did it a while back so need a refresher, then this is the best possible place to start.
Please just reply to this Newsletter — including your mobile number — for further details. This is likely to be the last Beginners Matwork Class we will be running till January, so don't delay booking your space if you want to take up Pilates.
New Reformer Classes
Trying to keep up with demand, we are planning even more new Beginner Reformer classes to start in September in our Loughborough Studio. These will be on Wednesday lunchtimes and evenings. Our Reformer classes are micro-group (only 4 people) and are the perfect way to do Pilates at a level that matwork classes can't really match.
Silver Swans Ballet
One of our fabulous team of Pilates Coaches — Zoe — is a Royal Academy of Dance trained ballet dancer and is also a Coach for Silver Swans, a programme designed by the RAD for the over 55s.
Silver Swans is a wonderful blend of classical bellet and gentle fitness. If you're looking for something new to try, maybe have never danced a step, or did some dancing when young but not since — then Silver Swans could be your new thing. Zoe is offering a Free Taster Class on Thursday 5 September. Please just reply to this Newsletter — including your mobile number — for further details, or click the photo here to book your free taster class.
Wow! Well, I'm sure you'll agree... that's quite a Newsletter! Lots of news in it, and lots of new things for you to do.
Remember — this is the last week of the Summer Timetable — and we return to a full timetable of matwork classes next week (beginning 2 September), and Reformer classes the following week (beginning 9 September).
Have a fab week folks — enjoy the bank holiday — and keep looking, moving and feeling good.

It's a holiday week so a short routine is available here. I am focusing on the group of muscles known as the gluteals: maximus, medius and minimus and when they function properly support the lower back and help us move with freedom.
As with every Exercise Of The Week, work at the appropriate level for your body and keep away from pain.
Feel the difference, move differently, and look more balanced.

Although I have referred to this programme before in my Newsletters, I want to talk about the DAVID FROST programme that used to be on our TV — at home we only had black and white TV (yes, that is how old I am!) -—called That Was The Week That Was. There was a sketch section
with 3 men standing in a line — John Cleese, Ronnie Barker and Ronnie Corbett — standing in that order, making the most of the height differences in the line up.
The reason being was to use this visual image to show that John Cleese was above the other two, and Ronnie Barker although lower than John Cleese was above Ronnie Corbett and could therefore look up to John but look down on Ronnie. Ronnie Corbett of course being at the end of the line and the shortest would then be looking up at Ronnie Barker and John Cleese wasn’t within reach. It was to reflect a bit of social comment on our society, and was also reflected in how they dressed.
Anyhooooose. .... to cut a long story short, I want you to have this image in mind when you consider your gluteals!
We have the Gluteus Maximus (John Cleese), Gluteus Medius (Ronnie Barker), and the Gluteus Minimus (Ronnie Corbett). And it is this group of muscles that I am concentrating on in my Exercise Of The Week, as they are so crucial to the health and wellbeing of our lower back. Unfortunately, without a little push they become lazy from the lifestyle we lead which may involve more sitting. So exercising them is vital to keeping our body healthy, strong, and pain free.
John Cleese and Ronnie Barker are both superficial muscles in that they are close to the surface, and they are strong when extending at the hip and abducting the hip as well as pulling the thigh bone in multiple directions. Ronnie Corbett however is a deeper muscle and flexes and medially rotates the hip. It may be smaller but neither John Cleese or Ronnie Barker would be able to work without it, as it performs the opposite actions of the bigger muscles.
The purpose of my message here is that … it is the whole picture we need to look at when we are working on our health and wellbeing. Even the smallest of things, that may seem insignificant and not as important, need to be shown some love and care in order for everything to operate and for us to feel happy and healthy.
So don’t ignore the small stuff, invest some time and feed it well, because it is the small stuff which forms the foundation for the bigger deal.

It's Week 8 of the Summer Timetable, so not many classes are running this week. Best to check and make sure your class is on, before you turn up to an empty venue...
Matwork classes return to full timetable next week — week beginning 2 September. Reformer classes meanwhile return to full timetable the following week.
Book a Catchup/Missing Class
If you know you will have to miss a class in your course for any reason, want to let us know or would like to book a space in
another class instead, just follow the link to register it. Our Glamourous Assistant Karen runs the Catchups system, and this link is the quickest, most direct means (it's even faster than emailing her!) of letting Karen and your class Coach know.
Simply tell us the class you will miss and — most important if you want to book a Catchup — please give us as many alternatives as possible. If you only give us
one alternative, we cannot guarantee you will get a Catchup.
Please let us know if you will miss your class but don't want a Catchup — the whole Catchups system relies on knowing when spaces will occur.
Finally, please don't just tell your class class Coach you will be missing a class, as your Coach is not aware of Catchups spaces and has no means of registering
your space. Karen needs to know, and the link here (it's also at the bottom of our website too) is the best and fastest way to let Karen know.
