So I was in Edinburgh to attend the Pilates Gathering ... and then remembered that this was also happening this weekend: the Climate Strike.
It was quite amazing to see so many young people with their banners marching through the streets of Edinburgh peacefully showing their concerns for what is happening to our planet. Parents were carrying babies on their backs, a group of young men
had made their clothes out of plastic bags, various costumes from polar bears to bumble bees, chants of “We want our planet back” “Justice, justice, justice for the people” “There is no planet B”
It was amazing that the main roads through Edinburgh had been blocked off to traffic to enable this march, and all across Social Media showing similar marches all over the world, in every city, in every country. Click the photo here to see my Instagram post from Edinburgh.
I felt very emotional to see this, and felt inspired by so many young people taking on this protest, wanting change, and wanting it now for their future and their children’s future. To organise and carry out such a huge — and perfectly peaceful — protest at this level shows a maturity that many of their elders would do well to emulate. I was immensely proud of what our young people are capable of.
Things have to change so I do hope that the world leaders don’t just brush this aside ... we have to have hope — hope that things will change.
Have a great week — keep looking, moving and feeling good ... and live younger for longer.

The Exercise Of The Week this week is one of a series of routines from my Be the Best You You Can Be programme I ran three years ago, in the run up to Xmas 2016.
The Be the Best You You Can Be programme is a great mixture of Pilates exercises for you to do at home, lots of meal recipes to make and eat, planners, shopping lists, and video links of pure Pilates routines along with high-intensity, interval training (HIIT) workouts — so that you can be the best you, you can be.
The routine here lasts about 11 minutes, so is a perfect length to fit into your busy day. I hope you enjoy it.
Please work at the appropriate level for your body.
As usual — feel the difference, move differently, and look more balanced.

In the media this week there has been some coverage of how to stay younger for longer. Dr Michael Mosley — who is often seen on our TVs doing programmes about health and fitness — has been promoting his latest book which is looking at this very subject.
So I thought I would share the top 12 benefits of getting and keeping our bodies moving:
1. Reduces tension, stress and anxiety and enhances mental well-being
2. Tones and strengthens muscles
3. Improves muscular endurance and flexibility
4. Boosts the immune system
5. Increases bone strength and prevents osteoporosis
6. Improves cardiovascular fitness and helps reduce the risk of coronary disease and strokes
7. Improves sleep patterns
8. Eases pain and stiffness of arthritis
9. Boosts levels of HDL (healthy cholesterol) in the blood and reduces high blood pressure
10. Reduces the risk of type 2 diabetes
11. Improves energy levels and self esteem
12. Relieves and reduces the risk of back pain.
In the words of Joseph Pilates:
If your spine is inflexibly stiff at 30, you are old; if it is completely flexible at 60, you are young.

Most classes — matwork and Reformer — are running as planned, all in their correct venues, at the correct days and times. The only exceptions are the two Friday morning classes in Old Woodhouse Hall — as the Hall is being used for a Macmillan Cancer Support Coffee Morning that day. Replacements for these classes are on Friday 25 October.
Book a Catchup/Missing Class
If you know you will have to miss a class in your course for any reason, want to let us know or would like to book a space in
another class instead, just follow the link to register it. Our Glamourous Assistant Karen runs the Catchups system, and this link is the quickest, most direct means (it's even faster than emailing her!) of letting Karen and your class Coach know.
Simply tell us the class you will miss and — most important if you want to book a Catchup — please give us as many alternatives as possible. If you only give us
one alternative, we cannot guarantee you will get a Catchup.
Please let us know if you will miss your class but don't want a Catchup — the whole Catchups system relies on knowing when spaces will occur.
Finally, please don't just tell your class class Coach you will be missing a class, as your Coach is not aware of Catchups spaces and has no means of registering
your space. Karen needs to know, and the link here (it's also at the bottom of our website too) is the best and fastest way to let Karen know.
