This week’s Newsletter
focuses on slowing things down a little: it has been a busy few months here at JTP and we are all feeling the pressure a bit. So check out the Exercise Of The Week below which gives us time to do just this … slow it down.
We have completed four weeks of this term, so apart from classes that need to have Catchups due to weather, illness and elections there are only 3 weeks of classes left before Christmas.
This term we have had to cancel and rearrange classes quite a lot, which isn’t something that sits well with me. I don’t like to do it, but on some occasions since September I haven’t really had much choice.
The following classes will have these replacements:
- Thursday 6pm and 7pm classes at Rosebery Street Medical Centre, Loughborough on 19th December — replacement classes for flood cancelled classes on 14 November
- Thursday 6.30pm and 7.30pm classes at Rempstone Village Hall on 19 December — replacement classes for cancelled classes due to the Hall being used as a Polling Station for the General Election on 12 December
- Friday 5.30pm and 6.30pm classes at Hathern Community Centre on Friday 20 December — replacement classes for flood cancelled classes on 15 November
- Wednesday 9.30am, 10.30am and 11.30am at Rosebery Street venue in Loughborough on Wednesday 18 December — replacement classes for those missed due to Coach illness earlier in the term.
If you are unable to attend any of these sessions then please just book a Catchup in the usual way — ie, using the Catchups link which sits at the bottom of our emails, at the bottom of the website, and at the bottom of this very Newsletter — and we will carry these into the new year on this occasion if needs be.
Keep looking, moving and feeling good.

On the basis that this week is about slowing things down, this routine focuses on de-stressing and taking time.
As a long sufferer of migraines I have found that if I can feel symptoms coming on, or I am aware of stress — which is one of the primary causes of migraines for me — the things in this routine have often helped me to stop them developing.
I should add that this is not a quick fix and may not work for everyone, but even the benefits of taking some time out, focusing on breath and simple movement in a controlled way can help to de-stress and relieve tension. So make some time and enjoy 18 minutes of release for the mind and body.
When you practise this routine, be really kind to yourself. When performing the movements try to feel as little effort as possible: make the time and give yourself 30 minutes on the mat, no distractions, no rush.
Migraines and tension headaches are often the result of neurological imbalances so here are some more top tips to help live with migraines or tension headaches:
- Don’t overheat — heat can disrupt the healing process of neurons, so it is best to keep the nervous system as happy as can be. (However migrainers also don’t like to be cold — so perfect temperatures please)
- Repetitive movement for an extended period of time can reset the nervous system and create a healthy blood flow to the brain and head. The movement doesn’t need to be fast or hi-impact, but nice and simple and at low intensity for longer durations. Think in terms of the time to move rather than the number of repetitions: a relaxed long walk, rather than a short power-march
- Be aware of stretching muscles rather than ‘tugging’ on nerves — sometimes we stretch our hamstrings for example and instead of feeling it in the belly of the muscles we feel it at the back of the knee joint. This could therefore be a ‘tugging’ on a nerve, which we don’t want. So you may want to check this out with your Pilates Coach.
- If the head is lower than your heart, we talk about this as being ‘inversion’. Small, short amounts of inversion (less than 30 degrees, for just a couple of minutes) helps to elongate the cervical spine and therefore blood flow. All good for the neurological system.
Feel the difference, move differently, and look more balanced.

As we head towards the end of November all thoughts start to go towards Christmas. There will be invites for get togethers, parties, end of term concerts, church celebrations, catching up with friends … the list goes on, and this doesn’t take into account shopping for food,
gifts and so on.
I was chatting with a fellow Coach this week, and we compared notes and both felt that at this time of year it can feel quite overwhelming, particularly if you have family, as their demands often become your issues to deal with and ‘fit in’.
I always become quite envious of those people who seem to be able to go with the flow, who don’t need to have an almost ‘army manoeuvres’ timetable in front of them to be confident that everything will get done.
The conclusion we both came to was how important it was to plan in some ‘single’ time. Time without collecting children or dropping them off somewhere for their concert, time without meeting friends, time without family, time away from timetables...
So plan a day — or even half a day — when it will just be you doing whatever it is that you want to do away from the ‘busyness’ that this time of year inevitably brings.
Have a wonderful week folks, and get planning!

Book a Catchup/Missing Class
If you know you will have to miss a class in your course for any reason, want to let us know or would like to book a space in another class instead, just
follow the link to register it. Our Glamourous Assistant Karen runs the Catchups system, and this link is the quickest, most direct means (it's even faster than emailing her!) of letting Karen and your class Coach know.
Simply tell us the class you will miss and — most important if you want to book a Catchup — please give us as many alternatives as possible. If you only give us one alternative, we cannot
guarantee you will get a Catchup.
Please let us know if you will miss your class but don't want a Catchup — the whole Catchups system relies on knowing when spaces will occur.
Finally, please don't just tell your class class Coach you will be missing a class, as your Coach is not aware of Catchups spaces and has no means of registering your space. Karen needs to know, and the link here (it's also at the bottom of our website too) is the best and fastest way to let Karen know.
