New Reformer Classes
This week's Newsletter is all about the brand-new Reformer Pilates classes we're planning. Read on for more information.
Since we started running Reformer classes at our Studio in Loughborough a few years ago, they have grown in popularity enormously. However, it hasn't always been like that...
It's been a bit of a snowball effect really — they definitely took a bit of work to get them off the ground, but then — once we got the Reformer snowball rolling slowly, and people began to hear about them — it picked up speed and now they are just so very popular with everyone who tries them that our problem is supplying the demand we've created. They are now so popular that we have 22 Reformer classes already spaced over the week, with more coming very soon.
So what's a Reformer? And how do our Reformer classes work, I hear you ask. Well, a Reformer is the original machine invented, designed, developed, used, and patented — nearly 100 years ago (he patented it in 1925 to be precise) — by Joseph Pilates.
The modern Reformer seen here is actually only a little different — refined and improved obviously — from Joseph's invention, but it does all the things that Joseph intended, and allows you to do all the Pilates exercises that Joseph developed for it.
Note: the matwork exercises everyone nowadays associates with the Pilates program were developed from Joseph's Reformer exercises much later — in the 1940s to be precise...!!!
That's right — the Reformer and its exercises came first! Joseph really only developed matwork exercises in an attempt to emulate the experience of working on the Reformer when he saw the potential demand for larger group exercises.
Our Reformer classes are actually quite unique and we're very proud of what we've achieved with them. For a start, we only have four Reformers in the Reformer Studio room, so classes are highly specific to individual needs. But as there are four machines, it's a lot cheaper than one-to-one sessions. They're the best of both worlds, really.
At the moment, we're planning new Beginners Reformer classes for these days/times:
- Tuesdays 8.45am
- Tuesdays 10am
- Wednesdays 12.30pm
Once these are full, we hope to start more too. These Beginners Reformer classes are suitable for people who have never done Pilates before, or for people who have only done matwork Pilates so far.
We look forward to welcoming you to what is really a very special experience — a Reformer Pilates class with us.
And remember, we have many mixed level Reformer classes and some of these have a space too, so you don't have to be a novice to try one of our Reformer classes. You can see all our classes (Reformer and matwork) if you look at the intereactive online Calendar below. Again, just reply to this Newsletter with your mobile number for further details and to book a space.
Have a fantastic week everybody — keep looking, moving, and feeling great!

This week I am taking you back to an earlier set of videos.
Post-Christmas we often find that our bodies feel quite stiff and our movement feels restricted due to the festive period where we are often out of our normal daily routine. So I am sharing two videos this week...
Enjoy, and as with every Exercise Of The Week, keep away from pain, and work at the appropriate level for your body.
Feel the difference, move differently, and look more balanced.

I am involved in a project which is looking at what is known as a Life Pie.
Basically I have drawn a big circle on a big piece of paper, I have divided it into 8 sections and each section of my pie represents a part of my life.
So my 8 sections are:
- Time Out
- Relationships
- Health and Wellness
- Money
- Business
- Passion Project
- Adventure
- Family
The idea then is to rate each section out of 10 as to how well I am currently doing. Then, what I have to do each week, is choose two pieces of pie to try and improve. The two pieces of my Life Pie I am working on this week are, first: Health and Wellness — aiming to move every day to help the problems I am experiencing with my knee, and to eat more healthily.
Second: is Money — as I turn 60 this year I have some pension options coming up and I need to work out and decide what to do with them.
These two pieces of my Life Pie are also currently quite low scoring due to bad habits creeping in over Christmas with eating and exercising, but also I have known for about 6 months about my pensions and have done nothing about it. So this is giving me some focus on what I need to concentrate on without feeling overwhelmed. Looking at my Life Pie has really helped to focus my mind on what I need to do.
It might be worth you doing your own Life Pie: you can make your sections anything you like and then look at areas you want to improve and take small steps towards to achieving this. I will let you know how I get on.

Book a Catchup/Missing Class
If you know you will have to miss a class in your course for any reason, want to let us know or would like to book a space in another class instead, just
follow the link to register it. Our Glamourous Assistant Karen runs the Catchups system, and this link is the quickest, most direct means (it's even faster than emailing her!) of letting Karen and your class Coach know.
Simply tell us the class you will miss and — most important if you want to book a Catchup — please give us as many alternatives as possible. If you only give us one alternative, we cannot
guarantee you will get a Catchup.
Please let us know if you will miss your class but don't want a Catchup — the whole Catchups system relies on knowing when spaces will occur.
Finally, please don't just tell your class class Coach you will be missing a class, as your Coach is not aware of Catchups spaces and has no means of registering your space. Karen needs to know, and the link here (it's also at the bottom of our website too) is the best and fastest way to let Karen know.
