As from tomorrow restrictions are being lifted regarding getting back to life as we knew it. I am sure each and every one of you will have your own opinions about this. Your thoughts and your feelings will be affected by your experiences over the last 18 months.
Personally, I admit to feeling a little apprehensive about the idea that wearing a mask will be at the choice of individuals, with no strict rules … And that social distancing will no longer be needed.
But I also ask myself how and why I am feeling like this? It's because that for 18 months we have been told that this is the best way to keep ourselves and our loved ones safe. So this has become my belief, my truth, and has led to my actions.
So when we are told that actually we no longer need to do this … how long will it take for me to change my belief, my truth my actions? Will it be another 18 months with everything stabilising, with no surges, with no further lockdowns, before I begin to change my thoughts and feelings about not wearing a mask, or social distancing?
It could be …
After all if we think about other things that happen to us in our lives that form our beliefs, and how long they stay with us and how challenging it can become to change the thoughts around those beliefs, we know that change and acceptance does take time.
Here are a few things that could help:
- Change the language we use to talk about what’s happening.
- Show gratitude that we are in a position where restrictions are being lifted.
- Use a mantra: even though restrictions are being lifted, and I am feeling apprehensive about this, I completely accept myself
- Do one thing each day that is taking positive action towards accepting change.
- BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY — only do things that you feel comfortable with — you don’t have to justify why — make the decision that is best for YOU.
