Keith and I had time last week to potter in the garden and start planning ahead with different plants as we head into the Autumn.
As we pottered we chatted about a patch of the garden where nothing seems to grow.
It doesn’t seem to matter what we try, it still never grows. We have listened to advice from people with more knowledge about gardening than us, but still nothing happens. On investigation, although the top soil looks ok, underneath its not so good. Ant nests, clay, rocks …. no chance of any roots being allowed to spread and lead to growth.
It got me thinking about how this scenario can be reflected in our life.
My recent work on Mindset lends itself well to this patch of our garden. When we have a desire to change our mindset, whether it be down to problems with weight loss, or in business, with money, with happiness or love, it’s about what is hidden beneath the top soil that will allow us to change. We need to nourish the soil of our mindset.
It doesn’t matter how many times we hear from inspirational/motivation gurus that “you can be a winner” or “you can choose a different option” or “you can do your best, and the universe will do the rest” or “feel grateful for what you have” … for a short time we will feel exhilarated, strong, empowered to make a change. But then as this falls by the wayside,
we start to slip back into old habits and beliefs, nothing changes, nothing grows.
It’s not until the hidden layer underneath that top soil is changed that you will feel able to spread out your roots and grow. It’s not until you accept that your experiences of the past are simply perspectives that you can change.
It’s not about working harder or showing more willpower, its truly about becoming acquainted with the perspectives you have and recognising the power you have to change them. It’s about preparing the soil for growth.
The seeds we get from fitness experts, coaches, mentors are all healthy seeds, we just need to make sure when we are planting them, that we don’t let fear, limitation or doubt creep in and ruin the soil. Nourish your soil with acceptance, awareness, curiosity, and recognise the freedom to change the perspective.
AND just like we feed our plants and our soil in the garden, and tend it everyday … so we must tend our mindset daily.
I will be starting a second Self Care course soon … so look out for details over the next few weeks.
Awesome August
Are we really heading into the last 9 days of this challenge? I know that some of you have fully committed to this programme and it’s not just August that is awesome … I am absolutely loving it.
