The Jane Thomas Pilates Newsletter
Hello ,

I’m not sure how many of you have read my blog, but it is something that I enjoy doing. I like to tell a story and almost every week as a Pilates teacher I see things and hear things happening with our JTP family that inspire me to tell their story. As a result of this, I have been asked to write for a new magazine that is to be launched — I am ultra-excited about this, so will share the details as and when I get them.

Other news is that both Jenny and Helen will be doing their first module of Biomechanics training over the summer. As a team we are constantly developing our knowledge and skills and investing into them, so that we can help more people to become more active and pain free. The Biomechanics training enables us to make our Pilates courses more functional and to help individuals with specific issues. I am delighted that our team are motivated and committed to their continual professional development, and how this will be paid forward to our JTP family.

Have a fantastic week folks — look, move and feel great.

IMPORTANT — Continuing Email Issues
Our email issues are still ongoing. Previously, this had only affected our personal emails, so that some people weren't getting emails directly from either Jane, Keith, or Karen.

This now appears to be on the mend, but a new issue has cropped up in that the omniscient BT has now decided to block our Newsletter — ie. what you're reading now) so that any of you with BT email addresses (btinternet, btconnect, etc) would not get the Newsletter.

We think this is now resolved, so that those of you with BT email addresses should hopefully receive this copy of the Newsletter. Can we ask anyone with a BT email address who gets this email — can you please reply to it to let us know you have received it? Thank you.

Remember, this means ONLY those of you with a BT email address. As far as we're aware, anyone with an email address not from BT is receving the Newsletter just fine (unless you know different!).
It's Wunda-Full!
We have a new piece of equipment at the Studio.

The Wunda-Chair was designed by Joseph Pilates way back in the 1930s, and we are delighted to say that we now have one of our own.

It gives us yet another specialist aid in our toolbox of Pilates equipment to use with our one-to-one clients.

Along with the Pilates Reformer, the Wunda-Chair provides new methods of taking your Pilates to a fantastic higher level.

More information about the Wunda-Chair is here
Exercise Of The Week
A few of our class participants have been experiencing shoulder problems recently — it happens every year at this time, often as we head back into our gardens and start to overuse muscles that haven’t needed to be worked as much over the winter.

So for Exercise of the Week this week I am giving you a shoulder release, plus Jenny has put together a shoulder warm-up sequence which I think you will all find useful.

Do the release 4 times a day if you are having specific shoulder problems, then — as it starts to feel more comfortable — work on doing Jenny’s warm up every day, particularly if you are planning some work in your garden.

As always, work at the appropriate level for your body and keep away from pain.

Feel the difference, move differently, and look more balanced.
Your Whole Self
My Dad used to love fishing. The night before he would start getting his kit ready, checking his rods and his line, filling up his fishing basket, preparing his packed lunch and getting his flask ready — and we always knew he was going to be planning a fishing trip by the fact he would arrive home from work with a box full of maggots which he used as bait … yuk, I found them fascinating, but revolting all at the same time.

He would get up at some unearthly hour of the morning — 3.30am sometimes — and head off. My Dad didn’t drive so we didn’t have a car, but we were lucky in that we lived within walking distance of a river so Dad would carry his equipment and head off over the fields until he found the perfect spot to set up. He loved the peace, the tranquility and the time that fishing gave him, so when I asked as an 8 year old if I could go with him, I’m not so sure he was that thrilled, but he said as long as I was prepared to sit still and be quiet that I could.

The main thing I can remember about the trip was that Dad would catch a fish but throw it back, and this happened a lot, and in the end I asked him why, what was the point of fishing, when all you did was throw them back in the river. Well of course, as all good fishermen know, if the fish are smaller than a certain size you legally have to thrown them back, you can’t keep them. I couldn’t understand the point of it, why did Dad continue to sit there for hours catching small fish that he then had to throw back?

Now, when I think about his explanation, I recognise the lesson he was passing onto me — because on one of these occasions the fish I get will be a big one, one that I will be proud to have caught, and all the time I have put in to sitting and waiting as I catch the small ones will not have been wasted, but will have brought me to this point of catching my big fish. Don’t give up at the first disappointment of just catching a small fish, keep on going, keep trying because eventually your patience and investment in time and energy will pay off and you will get your big fish.

Book a Catchup

If you know you will have to miss a class in your course for any reason, and would like to book a space in another class instead, just follow the link to book it.

Simply tell us the class you will miss and —most important — please give us as many alternatives as possible. If you only give us one alternative, we cannot guarantee you will get a Catchup.

Please also let us know if you will miss your class but don't want a Catchup — the whole Catchup system relies on knowing when spaces will occur.
